Default Device for protection

Think...traffic accidents, gypsies, break-ins, belligerent people, safety

In theory the product is good. In reality, the mugger would have knocked the device out of her hand in 5 seconds.

AND, the bad guy is likely to believe that his image is only captured in the cell phone camera, which he will destroy after the assault.

People rob convenience stores, and banks, regularly, with no concern for the fact that they know they are being video recorded.

There is an effective alternative.......

It is a cellphone app that you can activate and point at the bad guy showing a police officer who announces in a loud voice that the police are on the way and that the bad guy's face is being recorded. (What if he is wearing a mask?)

You can see my evaluation in a previous post.

A can of pepper spray instead? (If you're not into toting a gun around in your purse.)

If you are routinely going into "the bad areas" I can see carrying the pepper spray but not a gun. However, for going around The Villages, WHY? Can anyone remember the last mugging, strong arm robbery, or armed robbery of a person in The Villages?

Yes, at a couple of the bars open at 1:30 a.m. there have been a few fights, but you would be breaking the law just by carring a gun into a bar. No need for carrying a gun while in The Villages.

Oh yeah, the cellphone app sounds ridiculous.

You left out "rape". I often wonder if men have any concept of what rape does to a woman (or man) for the rest of her/his life. It occurs to many of us women often, and daily.

Who said anything about a need? It's a RIGHT. Some people like to exercise their rights.

I think there was an armed robbery at one of the country clubs last year; Evans Prairie, maybe?

Reviews aren't very good.

by sandy81676
This app needs to realize that people live on the borders of different states and MOVE. That people rarely change cell numbers even after they move. I live in Philly but my phone number is south jersey so it automatically decides whether the service is avail based on my number NOT MY LOCATION which is most important. And it's a non functioning app that's basically just an ad to garner donations for the POSSIBILITY of a functioning app!

Don't get me wrong, it's an excellent IDEA but it shouldn't have been available on the AppStore publicly until it was a full fledged functioning and usable app. That means at least ALL major cities in the US. And again the issue with the phone numbers.

I'm leaving it installed when and if they get it working because I really could use something like this, but if you're just curious, prepare to be highly disappointed

DOESNT WORK

by St3Rod8675309
This doesn't work! Like everyone else, one can't get past the registration. They ask for money.. Methinks they need to raise money to hire security guards to monitor this. Ask yourself this: do you think police agencies across the US have the staffing and budget to support this? Exactly. What if your connection doesn't support live streaming? Do you think this is widely known enough to stop criminals? What if the criminal has a mask? I'll tell you what will stop someone who intends to do you harm - a gun! Buy a firearm, practice with it every once in a while, get proficient, be a responsible owner and if a criminal tries to do you harm as was portrayed in the promotion video, pull out your gun and protect both you and your family. Criminals speak gun and criminals know guns bite when they try to hurt their owners.

...More
Great idea but...

by Mela-FairyTailFan
I was able to register and they even asked me for a donation. It seems like a great idea that would work but it's not there yet. It needs tons of work, not only did the app freeze a couple of times but after the test run the app told me no officers were available in my jurisdiction. Also, if you get a regular phone call it interrupts the service. Imagine a bad situation and a friend calls to say hi, well you would no longer have a cop on the phone to diffuse the situation and the bad guy gets the upper hand. For now I rather call 911. Maybe once I get the notification saying there's service in my area, I'll download the app once more.

Yes, there was. It was in June, 2014. The manager was robbed at gunpoint of the daily receipts at 1:30 a.m. and the robbers were caught within a couple of days. They were all current or past employees of Evans Prarie Club.

If you had read my post, it alluded to armed robbery of the general population of Villagers. But, even so, if the Evans Prarie manager had been armed, it would have done him no good since he was approached from the rear and had a gun put to his neck.

I sure hope you exercise your right legally and do not go into a bar or bar area of a restaurant while carrying.

Last time I checked, Evans Prairie is in TV. And now you're Monday morning quarterbacking. Unless you were there, you don't know what a ccw could have done.
