Interesting article in the POA this week. It details a speech given by the sheriff's department on rules/laws regarding the MMPs and roadways for carts, pedestrians and cyclists. Interesting tidbits: pedestrians should walk against traffic, and single file when traffic is present. Cyclists should ride single file when traveling slower than surrounding traffic, and all cyclists are required to stop at stop signs. One can be ticketed for DUI on a bicycle, and DUI on your private property.

Good luck with waking single file. They won't even do that in the diamond lanes when traffic coming both ways and carts in the lane. The other day I came up to blind corner and there were three ladies walking abreast blocking also most the entire MMP. I had to go on to the grass to get safe clearance. Didn't stop the conversation or made attempt to move over, I don't think they seen me?
![]() I stay clear of bike riders on the MMP, especially the slow wobblely ones. Don't know when the will swerve or topple over? When I walk on the MMP I walk on the edge ready to jump off and I alway get on to the grass when two carts will meet at my location. Same on the diamond trails when I have no choice to walk on them getting to the MMP. How on you get DUI on your property unless they are called out for some reason??? |

Very good article, just read it. It looks like the law needs to "evolve" on some of these issues. I also find it amazing that a golf cart capable of going 20 mph is restricted to roads with a max speed limit of 30, and LSV's capable of 25 can go on roads with a speed limit of 35. Meanwhile, a 98 year old villager can weeble-wobble all over the middle of Morse Blvd at 3 mph. What's wrong with this picture?

I like his description on how to deal with round abouts. Think of them as an intersection.if you are in the right hand lane approaching an intersection you can go straight or take a right. If you are in the left hand lane, you can go straight or take a left. Pretty simple when you look at it that way.

I was disappointed to read that LSVs cannot use the diamond lane. I appreciate it when an LSV driver pulls into the diamond lane to allow a line of autos to safely pass. I know they have the right to stay in the vehicular lane, but it seems courteous to me to allow autos at 30 mph to get around an LSV at 25 mph when the LSV uses the diamond lane temporarily. I imagine the problem is that if one vehicle type is allowed into the diamond lane, it would be hard to cite someone in an auto for using that lane to pass someone making a left turn.

most regular carts do that speed. I've seen many doing 30+ on the road. I don't get it really, every car is ticked off around you, the extra expense....added safety reqs are good though.

There aren't that many street legal carts. Most of BV and Morse are 4 lanes so there is a lane to pass. I am not ticked off by street legal cart. I don't see the need but they are certainly allowed to use the 35 MPH roads just as much as cars are.

One other interesting rule I read in that article is that pedestrians cannot use the road if there is a sidewalk. So many joggers in the diamond lanes because they think it is softer on their feet.
