Default Reminder - Sumter Property Tax Due Date

Just a reminder for those of you who pay your Sumter County property taxes directly. The deadline for maximum prepayment discount of 4% is this Wednesday, December 3rd.

Taxes are not delinquent until April 1, 2009 but the prepayment discount is reduced for each month that you wait.

I believe you can drop off your check in person at the Sumter County Annex at 466/Morse Blvd.

As usual V07, you have been so thoughtful to your neighbors by posting this reminder. Thank you.

Villager07,

We just closed the end of October 2008 and have not received an bill yet. Plus we are not down there. How can I prepay the tax bill? Is there an address that I can use to pay the bill on line from Citizan's First Bank?

RS...

You're probably ok...as I recall, you bought new and settled recently. Your property tax obligation was probably factored into your closing costs (check your settlement sheet). As I recall, if you take ownership in the same year your home was built (and it may also depend on what month you settle), you only pay tax on the land the first year so it's a pretty light bill.

If you're still not sure, contact Sumter County Tax Collector's office.
