In an interview in the latest issue of Business Week, Meredith Whitney was asked how much longer she thinks this finanicial crisis will last.
Whitney answered, "If I had to be specific, I'd say another 18 months, at least." Well, even though I don't think anybody knows, from what I have read, this woman comes with some credibility. She seemed to know how to call a bear a bear. Or at least to see it coming. Here is the short interview from Business Week: http://www.businessweek.com/magazine...2000007429.htm Meredith Whitney has been called "The Woman Who Called Wall Street's Meltdown." Here is an article about her from Fortune -- a few months back. Old news now, but some stuff about her. Sometimes she does not make people happy with what she says. But she is pretty interesting to read about. And she has been right. http://money.cnn.com/2008/08/04/maga...tune/index.htm Anyway, I sure don't know what to think about when or how we will start to recover. But I thought I would pass these two links along in case any of you might be interested in seeing someone, who might have a clue, be willing to at least hazard a guess. Actually, for some weird reason, her willingness to take a shot at a timeline gave me a little hope. Boomer Last edited by Boomer; 12-10-2008 at 07:53 PM. |

Boomer, the most intelligent response to that question would be it will continue until it ends. I cannot think of anyone who would stake his "life" on answering that question any more definitively.

Pundits and prophets can predict the future all they want. I for one think is will end in the summer of 2009. The offical date should be June 28th at 3.07 pm.

I'll put your name in that square, but it's not official until you put your life on the line to keep the spot.

Turn off the TV and do not listen to any media broadcasts.
There is more good going on in the world than bad...you aren't supposed to know that according to the media. It is also not in politicians best interest for anyone to think there are good things...how else could they talk if they couldn't accentuate the negative. You are above ground and better off than most of the world...just smell the roses and the ![]() BTK |

I am above ground and I am above water. And I know how to be thankful for all that I have. Smell the roses??? -- OK. "Go to Disney World"???? -- No way. I can be pretty hard to hornswoggle. The media and the politicians??? -- Yeah, I know. But I still read stuff and listen and try to figure things out for myself. And I talk to real people, too. I like a good discussion of things economic. I have been watching the economy for a really long time. I don't know why I do that. It's just what I do. And I think I will keep right on reading and listening and paying attention and talking about it sometimes and trying to figure things out. It's just what I do. Boomer |
