Default A New Generation

If you watched CNN at all today you saw extensive coverage of Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan's filing with the Illinois Supreme Court to throw the Governor temporarily out of office. You also saw an additional interview with Jesse Jackson, Jr. by former Chicago newsman Don Lemon.

My impressions were that Lisa Madigan is one sharp lady. She conducted a long press conference knowledgeably while maintaining complete control over the situation. Jesse, Jr. was also compelling in his appeal to retrieve his good name after spending (according to him) 13-1/2 years of honest public service in the U.S. House of Representatives, but now being tainted by participating in the only meeting he's had with the Governor in four years which happened on the day before he was arrested.

I thought both Madigan and Jackson, Jr. were impressive. Jackson's appeal for truth and the recovery of his reputation was compelling. Both are far from being "newbies" to the political scene. Madigan's father is one of the 3-4 most powerful politicians in Illinois and she will almost certainly be the Democratic candidate for Governor in 2010. Jackson, Jr.'s resume gets shadowed by his father's frequent TV appearances. But apparently he has been a very hard-working and effective member of the House going into his seventh term. He represents an interesting district covering both the poorest part of Chicago's inner-city south side but also a group of working- to middle class south side suburbs. Hopefully both are among a generation of young politicians who have gotten into public service for more high-minded reasons than simply lining their own pockets.

What say ye?

I am in agreement that only time will tell the story. I have been setting here reading the articles. It seems most are in agreement that Rahm Emanuel is not part of the probe.
To me the problem is, if he indeed did what they are saying, then should be a more resolute way of dealing with this. It almost seems it will take and "Act of Congress" to get this solved. Now that might be a bad term knowing how everyone feels about Congress. It would seem that to toss him out and start over just seems to easy which means in our political system it just isnt happening. See what pops up tommorrow on the net and news.
