Upholstery work is expensive because the fabric used is often thirty dollars a yard and it requires a skill very few people have any more.

I am thinking how I have had things upholstered in the past and how inexpensive in comparison new furniture is now. Probably because it is imported.

That's what I need done. 8 chairs. Could you give me a "ball-park" of what you paid (I realize material matters). If it's out of my price range, I will just get cleaner & a little brush. LOL ! You can PM me if you wish to. Thank you.

The chairs we had done were seat cushion only. About 3" high cushion with piping all around; seat wider at front than the back.

Labor was $40 per chair. We did not need the cushions replaced. He did include the gauze like netting to cover the foam and when completed he also covered the bottom side with a black material.

The material ran $25 per chair. I was one of the more expensive fabrics. They have multitudes of choices of material. Many close outs that were very nice, but non matched what my wife wanted/needed.

So we spent $65 per chair for 8 chairs. Compared to $250 per chair for new ones!!!

Took about a week to get the material and a week to complete the job. A function of how much he has in front of him at the time.

Thank you so much. I will be making a trip to check out the store. Actually a little less than I envisioned paying, so I am happy.

There is a business called Lake Upholstery at the intersection of Rt 25 and CR. 466A on the opposite side from the post office. Large building. Nice people, oodles of fabrics to choose from. They quoted me $2K to reupholstered my large couch. Which seems to be the going rate.

A second for Auroa's. Two years ago had 6 dining room chairs done with box seats with piping all around top and bottom. I supplied fabric. Price was approximately $250. Excellent workmanship stripes matched perfectly!

Default Stickley recliners?

I am also looking for a good reference. My recliners have wood sides that also need to be refinished a well. They are mission style recliners.
