Saw a monkey running across an open space off Hillsborough Drive....had to look twice....yep...a monkey....cute little guy.

I remember a TV news story about a monkey in the area of the School on Rolling Acres a year or so ago. Maybe he moved. I understand Villagers on average move 3 times.

No reason to doubt that a monkey would be loose around here. Lots of wild monkeys up in Silver Springs State Park.

However, there is a possibility that the OP saw a "monkey faced" squirrel. It is a mutation of the fox squirrel. At first glance, someone could mistake it for a monkey.

I don't even know what to say. Leave a bunch of bananas on the lanai let me know if they are missing in the morning. The Monkey reminds me of a song. I'll have to share that one in person.

OK that is good enough for me. Always helpful Mr. Tal. I read some time back about tree rats. I assumed the squirrel was the rat? True?

Just a very big squirrel. The first time I saw one of these in the Villages though I thought I was having another nervous breakdown. I have not had one of those since March-April of 2000. Knock on wood. And something else was going on back there in Palm Harbor and Tarpon Springs. I did not see a pookah like Harvey though or any huge squirrels. No nervous breakdowns before that in my life either.

I did see some real rats though. Reported them to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office on September 18, 2002 in person at their Headquarters but the Criminal Intelligence Detectives told me over the next few weeks that there was nothing criminal in what the rats had tried to do to me. The rats did bring about the March-April 2000 nervous breakdown so they got me pretty good.

Good video of the monkey faced squirrel. Yes, they are big for a squirrel! I have seen them on golf courses and it is amazing to see how some of the golfers are so scared of the squirrels. Natyrally, don't feed them!

You have to learn that squirrels all have bushy tails and all rats have a hairless tail.

They are a dime a dozen in NJ. Not the mixed variety just a plain straight up squirrel. People make fun of my Jorsey accent, you have to heard some people I know from Brooklyn say squirrel...it's funny stuff. My brother in law made meat with spaghetti one time and when I quietly told him the meat is a little strange that's when he told me it was....squirrel. The night did not go well.

If my brother in law served me a tree rat for dinner I'd punch him square in the face then dump the pot of sauce on his bed. Those were in my younger days of course.
