Wow. Are we old yet? New Year’s Eve sure used to be different. I can remember years when we got invited maybe even two places. But lately I think we must be hanging around with a bunch of old people. Nobody gets it together anymore.

Here’s what Mr. Boomer and I have been doing so far.

I made us a nice little tray of Wisconsin cheese from the Wisconsin niece and her fiancé. Wisconsin cheese is much better than Cincinnati cheese. We opened a bottle of wine to go with our cheese. The wine was not from Cincinnati either.

Then we began our scintillating discussion…...

First, I waxed philosophic on the wonders of water crackers. “Do you know why we have water crackers?” I asked Mr. B. who was tainting the Havarti and Gouda by sandwiching it between two Ritz.

“I don’t know,” he said. "I guess because they don’t taste like anything, got no taste at all.” Then he went on to do some old Andy Griffith commercial. “Everything tastes better on a crisp Ritz cracker,” he kept saying over and over. (Mr. Boomer loves Ritz crackers. Sometimes for lunch I hand him a can of sardines and some Ritz crackers when I am busy writing stuff on TOTV.)

Next topic:

We were laughing about our exciting New Year’s Eve when Mr. Boomer told me what he heard at the airport yesterday from one of his flying buddies about the plans he and his wife had made for tonight.

For Christmas this guy had received all the Harry Potter movies. And the plan is to start watching them and watch until they fall asleep. Maybe 10:00 he thought. Also, he was pretty excited because they have a big bag of potato chips and his wife is going to make some onion dip. And because it is New Year’s Eve, she is not going to nag him for eating potato chips and onion dip. And he said that he is going to eat as much as he wants.

Topic Number 3:

We have a geriatric dog who cannot hear much of anything. Especially the word, “NO!” There is no point in even saying it to her. And I admit, she bugs us when we are eating. I know what you are thinking. We are irresponsible pet owners. She should have been taught to behave better 15 years ago. Oh, well.

Annie, the geezer dog, wanted our cheese. And she whined. And then she barked at us, rather sharply. And she said, “I am 15 years old. Remember how young and cute you were when I showed up at your back door. Well, neither one of us is young anymore. I am actually 105. But at least I’m still cute. And you will give me some cheese. It’s all I got -- food. I can’t chase deer anymore. My hip hurts.”

Yep, that’s what my dog said. And we gave her some cheese. She sure is pushy in her old age.

And then Mr. Boomer and I discussed those hideous stories you hear once in awhile about somebody being eaten by a dog. Don’t know if they’re true stories. But they are quite hideous. And I asked Mr. Boomer if that happened to us because we would not give our dog the cheese she wanted, did he think the paper would describe us as “an elderly couple”?

That’s it so far for New Year’s Eve here at Boomer Base. There is a bottle of wine waiting with my name on it. Well, I guess it’s not exactly my name. It’s somebody named Kendall Jackson. But before I go, I thought I would just stop by the kitchen and say “Happy New Year” to all of you TOTVers. I wish you all the best in 2009.

New Years 2008-2009

The plans here for me and Mrs. Tony usually involve going out to dinner with good friends, hanging around at various art shows and stuff and getting to one of our homes by midnight.

Those friends are no longer around us (it's a real long story) so we normally go to dinner, and fritter away the rest of the night here watching movies, or visiting friends or family.

This year, though, our daughter invited us to her place down the road to celebrate with her family and her in-laws. I immediately got sick. I don't mean it that way, but I got a terrible cold, cough and stuff, and here we stay at home. I have convinced my daughter that I did not catch the cold deliberately. She will tell her father-in-law.

Mysteriously after we had a houseful of people over Christmas, a couple DVDs appeared, left behind by my very sneaky cousin. They were videos discs he converted from my dad's 8 mm movies, the ones that are always shaky and jiggly, people walking this way like Charlie Chaplin then walking that way with the 8 mm movie wobble. Or they stop and wave.

There was a lot of footage of the young Tony racing soapbox derbys, so much footage, in fact, that you would never know I did anything else, except wobble this way then that way. I never waved. I was above such pedestrian action.

The movies had shots of both my grandfathers, grandmothers and a host of related mechanics and some questionable relatives, with their faces mostly obscured behind newspapers. Or hankies. They seemed to blow their noses a lot back then.

It turned out to be a very warm evening here in the cold north. I got to see my parents and grandparents again.

We went to a NYE party for about an hour and half...then headed home for some sleep....staying home with Kendall Jackson and TOTV has nothing to do with age (IMHO).

Thankfully you and tony wrote these post's as I really needed something to read!!

So to answer your question...I am reading about what you did on NYE...and have enjoyed it....thank you for sharing!!

I am so not believing this. We are still awake. And we have discussed a bunch more stuff, even more exciting than the first batch I told you about. Ohhhhh, Boomer's a talker. Are you surprised? And the geezer dog is still awake, too.

Addendum: That clock on here is not in Cincinnati where it is 1:26 AM. But that's OK. The clock on here is an hour ahead. That clock is making us look so good. Up late. Party on.

Had a great steak dinner with good friends.
Came back to our place, started a fire and surfed the various NYE celebrations: Seacrest to Clark to Cooper. Settled on Rockin' New Years Eve and watched the Ball drop. Being New Yorkers we never go to Times Square we watch on TV.
Had champagne, coffee, pumpkin pie and left over Christmas cookies.
Just took pictures of one of our cats with a foam crown around her neck.
She thinks she's a queen.

Have to agree with Mr B. Have spent many years trying water crackers, wafers, Carrs biscuits etc., etc., and at the end of the day.....
Everything's better when it sits on a Ritz!

It is well after midnight and I try really hard to NEVER type after midnight. Especially after spending the evening with Kendall Jackson.

I gotta get outa here. I must leave this kitchen computer and go make sure that Mr. Boomer is not eating Ritz crackers in bed.

My New Years Eve was just same old stuff back in PIA Pocono's!!

We have a certain friend in TV that had a big party, and a few of us in chat tried to call her, to no avail...
She didn't even answer her phone...

Guess her Villages friends were more important than poor old us, freezing our you know what's off back north!

Needless to say, we were very disappointed..We wanted to be part of the festivities, even if only by phone!

Oh well, us girls know where we stand now!

At least I had Punkie & Halle..

We commiserated together, as we froze here at home!

One more reason it is so great to be in the Villages-the Parties. I wrote I was going to this party over on the blog. We went to a hugh private house party with the nicest people. Eat, drink, dance, sing and great conversation...a great way to end 2008.

Had a party with 16 people,wife fixed lobster tails and steaks.
Had several adult beverages and then we ALL played the old game Twister,was fun watching.
Watched the ball drop and party broke up by 1 AM.

LOBSTER TAILS! STEAKS! ADULT BEVERAGES!

And Mr. Boomer and I were here in Cincinnati, in the cold, eating Ritz crackers and Christmas cheese, and laughing about having a geezer NYE. And then I got on this infernal computer in the kitchen and confessed the entire thing last night to anybody out there, to people I don't even know. And I told everybody about me and Kendall Jackson. Oh my!

Lobster and steak are our two favorite food groups. And all that other stuff......

I don't know who you are or where you live, but I have a whole year to find out. And we will bring the Ritz.

Okay now I'm mad. Or maybe just hungry. Donna gets no response from phone calls she's made to TOTV friends. DITTO!!! Then you know who invited Marion, Lake, and Sumter County folks to their home for steak & lobster. Just wait. When I have crappies on the half shell see who I don't invite. We'll just post the trained killer dog at the door. Grrrr.

We were working on our bathroom remodel during the day. We looked at our watches and saw that it was almost 8 pm, and decided we had better stop and get over to our neice's house. (about 35 minutes away in Howell) She had a few friends and family members over to her home for NYE. We complained the whole way out there that we didn't really want to go, we were too tired! But we got there and had a good time playing Tribond (I don't know if I could actually get off of the ground if I were to play Twister anymore!) and eating sloppy joes. We came back home after midnight to go into the hot tub, but we were too tired to do that by the time we got back. So we just went to bed. We are getting old!!!!

Hey 16...Now we know where we stand..When we are in TV, this person is always tired!!

We are home and she has the party of the year!! OH NO...This will never do..Even our very own Fruit Felon was there!!!

I would say the party was very successful, didnt get home until 3:00 am HAVE A MAJOR HEADACHE TODAY BUT IT WAS ALL WORTH IT!

OUR HOSTESS OUTDID HERSELF! Havant had that much fun in years!
