Default Cheap way to circumscribe a mark on your golf balls

The diameter of a golf ball is 1.68 inches.

The inside diameter of a 1 1/4 pvc coupling is 1.66 inches.

So what?

Fairly new to golf here. Why would you do this?

Two reasons.

1. To mark your ball for identification. The rules of golf state that you must be able to identify a ball as yours. Just saying that you're playing a 'Titleist ProV 1 with a red 2' does not legally count, because they literally sell millions of them. In other words, without additional markings how does a person know it is actually their ball and not someone else's who was playing the same ball and lost theirs in the same hazard?

2. The line can be used to line up your putt and you can watch it as it rolls on the green to see if you're making a good stroke (the line doesn't wobble).

I've had more than one opponent in a match get pi$$ed when I asked them how they know that is their ball (such as being in a hazard). I then tell them that there was a reason I explained what type and the marks on my ball on the first tee.

For casual players among friends, it's probably not that big of a deal, but in the groups I play with (big money matches such as $5 a round ) EVERYONE has learned to mark their ball for identification with their own little mark(s).

Hope this helps.

Nice easy cheap solution...
a bit late for me tho - I bought a $4 stencil kit for golf balls a year ago. I mark mine with a broad arrow about 1" long. Really helps me align each shot to the target, as I have some vision issues - also a handicap> of little golf skills...

I have a stamp that puts my initials into the balls. Quit using it as my balls keep ending up in people's back yards....

Smart idea. Use other people's monogrammed balls per chance they may find a window in flight!
