Default ever wonder

how these huge university campuses have set up free wifi coverage for thousands of users? ever wonder how many villagers are paying 40.00 a month every month for internet service? ever wonder what the cost would be if we set up our own internet/wifi service that everyone owns? ever wonder how long this thread last before it gets pulled down?

I am sure the "free" Wi-Fi service at the universities is built into the tuition, and it requires a secure sign-in password for each user. Where I worked, we had Wi-Fi in all the buildings, requiring the user to know the name of the account (it was not transmitted), as well as their own unique password. There is already a "free" Wi-Fi system in the villages at each of the rec centers and probably other locations that can be accessed with your own unique login information. This will allow you check email, the villages sites, etc. not sure you could download a movie.
If you are trying to use a 'free' Wi-Fi system to eliminate cable, this will not happen, imho.

Apopka, a city on 441 between here and Orlando, has free wifi for a great portion of the city. Sure we paid for it. Nothing in this world is free.

Why would this happen?

To be clear, only the Regional Recreation Centers offer WiFi to residents. The village rec centers and neighborhood rec centers (a.k.a. pools) do not.

I assume you have a cellphone with a data service? If so, you can certainly drop the internet service into your house and use the data service from your cellphone provider instead. You will need a USB-based cellphone data modem for your laptop and/or desktop. You can also get a box that will provide WiFi inside your house via your cellphone data service if you have many devices that require internet access via WiFi. It may or may not be cost effective depending on how many bytes you move around. Nothing is free but with a little analysis you can find the most cost effective way to access the internet. I move, on average, 15 GBytes/day and it cost me $35/month via CenturyLink to do so. That is pretty low cost.

We looked into wifi for our resort a few years back albeit for only 1000 people, and it was less to put in than you think. Here every village would need a separate system. You probably could share wifi with neighbors on each side of you if they were willing. Kids often share TV cable and wifi as they can't afford it.

What you really mean is internet service. WiFi is just a way to delivering internet access to wireless devices, as opposed to cat5 cable. Call any of the providers: Comcast, Brighthouse, and CenturyLink (not all are available everywhere in The Villages). You can do better than $40/month.

Do you know if this site has "hall monitors" reviewing each post for content?

WiFi everywhere would be nice, but the speed would have to be good enough for Vudu, Amazon, Netflix, HBO GO, etc. to work properly, and they're not free. And, of course, you have to be concerned if it is an open service. But I guess it won't be long before Google blankets us with it.

Google Lafayette, Louisiana high speed internet service, TV and phone service. It is a citizen owned system providing all services at a higher level for less money. Bitterly fought by the AT&Ts, Comcasts and Coxs of the world.
