We have a GE refrigerator that came new with the house when we purchased it 6 years ago. Haven't had any problems until recently the ice maker stopped working. We have had a repairman in 5 times to repair/replace parts. Still experiencing problems. He informed us that historically in TV the GE refrigerators have been a problem. Has anyone experienced this?

Can anyone recommend a GE repairman?

Our GE side-by-side came with our 8 y/o house. When we arrived in Sept. we had few ice cubes and poor refrigeration. We called ABC Appliance and they gave us a loaner while they replaced the compressor for about $500. So far, so good.

Our GE provided by builder 6 years ago is the noisiest fridge I've ever heard.

We have a 2 year old GE - they fixed the ice maker and now it works. There are some modified parts they put in and now it is fine.

The longest running refrigerator happens to be a GE. 85 years and still cranking !

I could write a book about the repairs we've had to have done on our GE side by side. The 1st one we had that was in the house when we bought, was eventually deemed a lemon and was replaced. The replaced unit was repaired several times and mostly it was the ice maker that needed repair. It has been working fine now for the last few yrs. Should I need assistance in the future I"ll be calling Rick Beck 352-245-3598

Over the last few years GE has moved much of its production to China. As a result of producing inferior medical equipment there, they have lost market share.

Ice makers wear out after time. Some times all they need are removed defrosted and ensure the water feeder tube not frozen and plugged up.

Not that hard to replace them, two screws and harness transfer most cases. Now if you have bottom freezer with the ice maker down there it's a lot harder. There also shut off valve in the back where the water hose connects rarely they fail, usually it's the gears in the ice maker or water line at the ice maker plugged with frozen ice.

Most don't clean out under refrigerator's. They slowly plug up with dust, over heat, and won't cool which causes the compressor to die. If you own pets it especially important to clean the coils and fan area due to extra buIld up with pet hair. Usually this requires removing the back cover using feather duster or compressed air to get air flowing again.

When I moved in the refrigerator coils and fan hadn't been cleaned out for long time. It ran all the time, didn't really cool good and made noises. I cleaned coils defrosted it and it ran little while longer, but the compressor was on its last leg and wasn't worth replacing due to the cost. It's also important that you have enough room for the air to circulate leaving few inches from the back wall if possible.

Do routine maintenance and most will last long time.

If you have a GE refrigerator that gives you problems remember the old cars you had that you kept pouring money into. Cut your losses and buy an LG or a Kenmore.

Although it a refrigerator, we recently had a problem with our GE Profile induction stove. Ordinarily, I do take extended warranties if the appliances are younger. This time I let it lapse. A GE appliance man responded to the repair call last December and informed me that GE no longer made the single part for my nearly three year old stove. In total, the replacement part would have to be a whole unit, which would cost with the parts, labor and visit, over $1100. After calling customer service, they agreed to replace the needed part for $250 plus tax and labor, in which I agreed, but since it was not in stock, I would have to wait for the part to be made. I was given a case manager that informed me when to expect the part. She gave me a date, and each month it was never produced, until finally in April I had a working stove and oven. We made due with a microwave, and induction cookplate that I purchased, and my good old George Foreman grill.

GE customer service made good on their agreement, and the case manager checked in with me regularly, but would I go GE again? Probably not- especially when there was an irreplaceable part on a rather young appliance.

I have a GE refrigerator that had intermittent noise problems. At times, it sounded like a Boeing 747 (well maybe I overstate). While under warranty, I called GE several times. The unit would be quiet at the time. But, they did add a noise suppression kit.

Still, at times it was very loud. Was ready to get rid of it. Then my GE washer developed a problem while under warranty. When the Repairman arrived for the washer, the refrigerator was in full noise pattern. I asked the repairman (who had been there for the fridge before) what could be the problem. He quickly went inside the fridge and turned off the Vegetable crisper cooling fan. The noise stopped. Don,t notice any difference other than no noise.
