Thumbs up Bats under the Lake Mira Mar bridge!

Arrived from Cape Cod, my wife and I Rented a villa for the month of July to narrow down our choices of home style and location in the Villages for purchase July 2017. I kayaked lake Deaton, Lake Miona, and one day found the bats @ Lake Mira Mar in Spanish Springs. Under each one of the three arches over the lake, inside the seams in the prestressed concrete, reside hundreds of Bats! You can hear them very clearly as you pass under each arch. This is same type of habitat where the bats roost in Austin Texas under the Congress Street Bridge over Lady Bird Lake, but on a much smaller scale. People gather in Austin nightly to watch the bats take flight at sunset! Always nice to find something new in the Villages. Looking forward to next year!

Did you know that one little brown bat can eat 1,200 mosquitoes in an hour?

I had little brown bats roosting in my CYV concrete wall at the corner splice. Was enough room for them to get between the crack separating the walls. I enjoyed watching about 15 after fledging Take flight in the evening and coming to roost in the morning just before sun up. They didn't return this year.

We have had bats nest in our patio umbrella several times and boy were we both in for a surprise when I opened the umbrella.

Thanks for sharing that! I'm a big fan of bats for insect control and will definitely check them out next time I'm in the neighborhood!
