Warning: Cashiers Check Scam. I posted some furniture for sale on TOTV and was contacted by a male who wanted the furniture but couldn't pick it up himself since his wife was in the hospital having their first child. His "shipper" would pick up and I was to cash his check and give the overpayment to his "shipper". The phony cashiers check was for just under $2K - the furniture was $150!!! Fortunately I investigated on-line and found a perfect description of what I was almost a victim of: "The Cashier's Check Scam." Just a warning for everyone out there!

That scam has been around a long time. They never give up trying.

That scam has been around. There is also a problem with $20 bills around here (Michigan). When you give a cashier a $20 bill they run a highlighting pen over the bill to make sure it's good! A cashier told me that if that line turns a different color it's a counterfeit bill! I'm not sure who you can trust these days.

This is quite common. It happens just about every time I post an ad. Once I reply with cash only if it is a scam I never hear from them again. Anytime someone wants to offer you more than you ask or without seeing it and will have their "service" pick up after you cash the check it is most likely a scam.

If you put your email in the body of your ad anyone on the web can contact you. If you don't then you force someone to register and contact you through the private message system which allows for us to capture and ban and block them.
Best Regards, TOTV Team |
