Default My Sweet Angel Suki

Last Tuesday we prepared our beloved pet Suki (shih Tzu) to have surgery on a torn ACL. She had the proper pre Op tests done the day before as always. As we have before we did have our concerns with any procedure where she had to be under anesthesia but there have never been any problems and we also had a Vet that had taken care of her for the past 10 years. Unfortunately this time as soon as the anesthesia was administered, she coded. The 2 Vets there did everything they could, even calling a Veterinary Cardiologist to assist. Nothing could be done. She passed away. Looking back I do not think that I would have done anything differently. At first I blamed myself for scheduling the surgery but it was the right thing to do, she had pain and something needed to be done. Sharing this information has nothing to do with any blame, just more or less therapeutic to talk about it. She was very special!

If it's any comfort at all, I am a dog owner and have been for years. I have experienced the sharp pain of both unexpected pet death as well as euthanasia. No one understands your pain like a fellow pet owner, but still your pain is now and real and no well meaning thoughts will immediately erase that pain. Time alone will ease it, and that not ever completely.

I am sorry for your loss of Suki.

I will keep you in my prayers today.

Very sorry to hear of your loss. It sure sounds like you made the same call any loving owner would.

Be well, focus on the wonderful times.

You made the best decision you could in her circumstance. No one can know what anesthesia will bring. I am so sorry for your loss. An unexpected loss is so difficult to deal with. I am sure you are still in shock. Blessings on you, and may Suki rest in peace. Perhaps there will be another furry pet for you to love.

I am so sorry. Grief sometimes involves self blame where there is none. I am glad you had her and she had you for her lifetime. hugs to you..

I am sorry for your loss. You can't blame yourself for being a loving pet parent. Sounds like Suki was very blessed to have you as a parent. It is tough when we lose a pet, but maybe more so when it is unexpected. Prayers that your heart can find some peace. Just remember how blessed you were to have shared Suki's journey on Earth. Blessings.

So sorry to hear the news. It's never easy to lose one of our fur-babies ~ they are family. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

Crying major tears for you. So shocking. Terrible loss.

Every time I have to give my dogs anesthesia, especially after they turn 4 or 5, I have the vet give them a blood test to check out their major organs to make sure they can handle the anesthesia. My friend lost his dog back in the 70's the same way and it has always scared the hell out of me.

My condolences to you.

We also had a Suki - a chow who was with us for over 15 years. Being blind, deaf and with bad hips we assisted in her passing which was a peaceful death. Looking back my only regret was that we let her suffer a bit longer than she should have. I know your situation is different but you were right in your actions.
