For the past couple of weeks I have noticed some places have the American flag flying at half staff. This, obviously, is not a national thing as other places like the American Legion and the post offices have flags at the top of the flagpole.

Has anyone else seen this and knows what is going on?

On Sunday they were flown at half staff in Honor of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Services.

The previous one was from 9/28 to 9/30 to mark the passing of Shimon Peres.
