Default Driving a Golf Cart ?

What is the correct way to make a left turn into a side road when there is a separate golf cart lane.

Should the driver cross the car lanes or pull into the adjacent car lane & then turn left?

I'm asking this because I almost got me a golf cart yesterday.

Signal you are turning left, pull into the car lane when it's safe to do so, turn left. I see so many golf cart drivers turn left directly from the golf cart lane. It's not safe.

When traveling in the golf cart diamond lane if you want to turn left, pull into the regular car traffic lane well before the turn, so cars know you intend to turn left from their lane. You are at grave risk of being broad-sided by a car and killed, if you try to make a left turn directly from a diamond-cart lane.

I have been here 7 years and see the golf carts turning left from the golf cart lane so many times. Folks, it is foolish to be doing this DUMB maneuver. You will be killed!

Also, how about the car drivers who turn right without checking to see if there is a golf cart just about adjacent to them - and they turn right - into the golf cart?

There are a number of correct posts - take the lane - signal - and behave as if you are in a car (yielding) once in the lane (NOT THE CART LANE)....

Here is a proposed statue for a trophy we could give to many Golf Cart Pilots.

Hooooooold on! What are you saying here?

You almost "got" as in you almost "purchased" a cart?

-or-

You almost "got" me (you) a cart, in the same context I might say "I dun got me uh possum an' a squirrel in the ca' on dat daya cuntry road"

Default Safe driving means safe habits

Agree with other posters. See too many golf cart driver overly cautious and/or afraid of executing that move. I used both a mechanical and hand signal and merge with auto vehicle traffic.
the concern for golf cart drivers is the occasional car that insists no golf cart will move in front of them.

conversely, an automobile should not get in the habit of crossing the solid white line that defines the diamond lane. yet I see many cars execute a right turn utilizing the diamond lane. One of these days they are going to hurt someone because the golf cart will be in their blind spot. Safe driving means safe habits and safe habits means constant practice.

Had the golf cart lined up in my front sight-MB Star--would have been a center mass fatal hit

Two things I always emphasize to new cart drivers is move into the traffic lane to turn left and always stop by the center divider at gates. Do not move if the gate is going up for a car to enter. The other thing I mention is the car has the right of way, even if you legally do -- it's bigger, faster, stronger, heavier. You will lose and dead right just sucks.
