Default Dear Lady in the Champagne Colored Toyota Avalon

I hope you are one of the 57000 members here so you can answer a question. I am the driver with whom you were competing for the same point on the space/time continuum yesterday as we exited Springdale onto Buena Vista. I have marked my path with green and yours with red.
The Villages Florida

Since you laid on your horn with gusto, I assume you believe that you were in the right and I the wrong. Also, assuming you missed the warning painted on the road indicating you could only turn right and assuming you missed the metal sign indicating the same, and assuming you did not see my left turn signal blinking, please answer my question.

Where exactly did you expect me to head from the left lane?

Good luck getting an answer to THAT! The same thing has happened to me many times, the last time it was by a "street legal" cart. Maybe I can take the opportunity to ask that driver if he is suicidal. If I hadn't anticipated his stupidity, his "street legal" cart would be in 500 pieces, and he probably would be in just as many.

I left my home not two hours ago - hit by a car on my bicycle....just home from the police/fire/ambulance...I will create the same type of image off of Google Earth....this was a very purposeful "mirror hit" while I was in the cart lane (to the left of the cart lane)....only...I got the plate number....and so did the police.....oh, my driver also had a very impressive horn.....once I get the full police report (as it is public record) I will post name and license plate number (that I honestly forget now, but calling 911 it was the first thing I said).

Have a safe day all - the rumors about "them" (snowbirds) seem to so far be 100% accurate....

You would think that people who can afford to live in the Villages would be intelligent. Not so... We have our share of dumb plucks.

Somewhere, I am not saying too much until I get the copy of the police report and hear back from Lake County. I was in Marion County and the driver does not live in Marion...I want to be certain that the notes on the police report are correct, and have a witness add their statement. Then...gloves come off (figuratively). My less than inexpensive rear wheel was damaged (and my cleat broke on my shoe)...not much blood thankfully...got to wonder why people are so angry and horn happy...

Oddly, my jersey and shorts both said "Litespeed"...as does the bike :-)

You have to be completely nuts to ride a bike in the traffic circles in the Villages. You're asking for trouble. Multi-modal paths are named that for a reason. I always ride in them.

We have to be defensive drivers here especially. Some people here are older, losing eyesight, driving for the first time as their spouse has recently passed and many do not understand the traffic circles not to mention some of the Florida rules of the road. Assume nothing and watch out for the other guys.

I don't think I would have worded it quite so harshly , but I totally agree with your sentiment.

Nobody in this thread was riding a bicycle in the traffic circle.

At least once per day, I am going 3/4 around the roundabout, and therefore I am supposed to be in the left (inside) lane until I am ready to make the LEFT turn from the INSIDE lane, and I really look around and use my SIGNALS so people are aware of what I am doing. I have been here for 3 years, and still getting used to this way of using roundabouts. As long as the cars ENTERING the roundabout actually yield to ALL of the traffic on the roundabout, this works well, when they only yield to the right lane, bad things can happen.

Why on earth would you ride to the left of the bicycle/cart lane! I always ride to the right side of the cart lane.

It just amazes me that these type of issues don't happen in the summer time. It must be because everyone stays home during the heat of the day !!!!!

The Villages obviously is not the only place on earth that experiences accidents. An accident is a sudden unforeseen event created by an act of omission or commission of one or more persons. An accident by definition is not an intentional act.

The response from the aggrieved is normally in proportion to the serious consequences of the event. While accidents can be scary not all things scary are dangerous or damaging.

All of us are subjected to error and thus have been responsible for an accident(s) in our lives.

I keep this in mind to perpetuate my defensive driving and not to judge too harshly. I hope some posters do not judge my post too harshly.
