Does anyone compost their non-meat kitchen scraps? If so, does it attract unwanted animals?
Thanks...Nancy |

Florida is critter country. You will get to know feral cats, small gator's, raccoons and an occasional swamp rat. Yuck, put'em down the disposal!

Just picked up two sacks of free compost from the greens recycling removal company in our town in Norcal. We put our waste lawn, schrubs cuttings etc in a special garbage can (large Green wheeled container)that is picked up the same day as the garbage (small blue wheeled container) paper, plastic and aluminum (a bit larger brown wheeled container). With the greens you are supposed to toss in your food scraps (they give you a small covered plastic bucket to collect the food but us just use paper bags to eliminate cleaning the bucket)to promote the composting.
Each year they pass out two large free bags of compost to all residents of the city at their plant in town. They have about 20 police cadets directing traffic! The line is not a big problem and only takes about ten minutes to get thru on a Saturday morning. I think most residents look forward to getting the free compost each year, I know we do.

And the swamp rats are natural food for the SNAKES. You have to think about bird feeders twice for that reason. sigh.
