There is no specific legal definition for what constitutes a sanctuary jurisdiction but the term is widely used to refer to American cities, counties or states that protect undocumented immigrants from deportation by limiting cooperation with federal immigration authorities. Some decline to use city or state tax dollars to enforce federal immigration laws.


What are your thoughts on how this Admin will deal with them.

If Jeff Sessions is confirmed (likely) he is supposed enforce the letter of the law.


if an undocumented immigrant is stopped by a police officer for a traffic violation, police officers in sanctuary cities do not take that opportunity to take the individual into custody and contact ICE. ????????

Sanctuary cities ought to be burnt down, as violating Federal laws. Warning can be given for those wishing to vacate, even though it should be up to them to overrule the city government. The Governors of the states containing those cities should activate the national guard and have them declare martial law. We are one country, a country of laws. With no laws, we have no country, just land.

The Obama administration has been quick to file lawsuits against any state or local government attempting to crack down on illegal aliens in their jurisdictions. However, when cities openly violate federal law by aiding illegal aliens, the Obama administration has looked the other way. For example, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson audaciously claims that the Obama administration is helpless in stopping the practice. Johnson also opposes any attempts by the US Congress to pass legislation to punish sanctuary cities.


The Obama Department of Justice has reportedly pressured DHS in the past not to interfere with cities with sanctuary policies.

In effect, the Confederacy en toto was a sort of "sanctuary city" in that they nullified Federal law. Hence the Democrats of today square the circle so to speak. Ironic.
