Default In The Good Old Days.

Back when a family had a radio, no TV or computer, if you wanted to express your opinion you did it face to face. No hiding behind anonymity.
Now, thanks to technology, we can speak unrestrained and without civility instantaneously. Our communication has become unfettered and explosive. Before, there was time to gather our thoughts then express them respectfully to the people around us.

While absolutely correct, I'm afraid your observation will quickly be self-fulfilling...and the thread won't last.

I hope I'm wrong.

Yeah... and we peed in the shower, but we didn't talk about it.

Yes, no doubt about it. All you have to do now is click on the " Hide Classifieds " and the wing nuts of all flavors show up ranting and raving from the Political Forum about nothing in particular and just about everything. The anonymity of being identified as a " Guest " reinforces their ability to present positions and avoid debating them in a civil fashion.

I don't ever remember a time my family didn't have a TV...

My family had a TV in 1949, many didn't. I think its safe to say that the nature of what we are exposed to on TV has devolved from 30 minutes of national news per night, to a feeding frenzy to attract our attention and increase ratings. The old saying "if it bleeds, it leads" fuels most of what we see on national and local news. We have become desensitized over time to what used to be shocking.

Darn I had an excellent summary of our political history . In the good old days it would not have been removed

The good old days?
As a pre-WW2 kid from London, I will stick with the modern days thank you very much. Life has never been better.

Me too. I enjoy the peaceful family life I've acquired, along with all the modern conveniences.

Also... Television actually helped my parents not fight. Mostly neither of them ever resorted to civility. Not every family is a Hallmark Christmas card!

Well said. I was born in 1959 and sure would not want to venture back to the 1960s or even 1970s. Unless, I could get back to the 2010s very quickly.
