Cool TV and internet

I am soon moving to TV and saw some threads about unhappiness with the local cable provider. I currently am a Time warner customer but its prices have risen lately. I was wondering iif anyone uses Direct TV for internet and Tv reception in TV and if so how they like it. thanks for any input you can provide.

Direct TV bundles the landline phone and/or internet with the local phone provider - in TV it's Embarq. You don't get internet from the satellite.

Chuckinca, On the direct Tv website they advertise that they now provide internet service via (I think it's called blue sky) satellite. Have you heard of this?
Thanks, Ken

Ken,

We have had both, Dish Network and now Comcast. Dish Network went out every time a storm came. We haven't had any problems with Comcast (cable).

I stand corrected!

They do advertise satellite internet called WildBlue with 1.5 Mbps speed for "as low as" $39.9/Mo. Wonder what "as low as" means?

Speed isn't the greatest and price is a bit high but is available.
Wonder if the vacation stop works the same way that they treat the satellite service?

What ever you do stay away from Com-Cast a spell on your money and steal it!!!!!

If it is storming, should turn the tube off anyway. I got Direct TV. Love It.

So is there a "choice" of cable companies we can sign with?

Yes Amy.
There is a varity of choices. Although when we first moved here seven yrs ago we had a cable company called clearklink which "SOLD OUT" to comcast. I loved clearlink. Comcast did a horrible servicing business. I swithched to Dish as soon as I could. Non of the companies are very cheap any more. Just a matter of which you now prefer. I have no problems with my dish unless we have a very severe strom. I use wireless from embarq.

Good Luck and welcome to TV land.

Default just curious

Just curious as if anyone has tried the new (Converter) box that is suppossed to pick up the new transition to digital TV?

I realize you don't get many channels but it's free and after trying it at home we get about 10 channels from using the Converter Box that has a TV on our boat dock.

Just curious as if there is sufficient TV signals here in The Villages for the new Digital channels to work.... without paying?

We are only here a few weeks a year and I was wondering if there is a way around all those TV "contracts" and going with the FREE TV as I thought it might be an option...

Thanks fellow Villagers...

I went from ClearLink to Comcast and haze never had a problem with Comcast. When I added HDTV I got a converter box that did not work and called for a service call. The service tech checked it out and set it up. When he turned around i was looking for the HD stations and told him it still does not work. He told me I had the wrong box. I replaced it and all was well. I had an internet problem and it turned out to be the modem (old ClearLink modern. Both calls at no charge. I have solved several problems with Comcast over the telephone and with the talk to a tech on the internet.

My picture is clear and I have had only two periods of downtime due to problems that could be traced to Comcast.

I have had more than a few friends and neighbors switch from Comcast to the dish only to convert back.

Some people sound like they are just anti-Comcast to me.

There are a gazillion people that have Comcast and are very happy with it. For some reason they chose not to put up a post to defend Comcast.

Ask your neighbors-to-be before making decisions on these posts.

If you have cable or satellite you will not need a converter box from my understanding.

Hd alot better on Direct than comcast, the dvr service is better espcially if you forget to set a recording. Go online and do it. I called comcast about speed Channel HD, they told me be lucky you get the ones your getting. Both have pro and cons. But Comcast Cust Serv bites!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have noticed alot more Direct TV and Dish going up.

Look into it before you get it.

We have the convertor box - we get fox channel all day every day As for ABC and CBS - it varies. Other channels also vary.

Not hear to watch TV - but, will probably switch to something else when basketball season comes, cause I do not want to miss a Kentucky Basketball Game - GO BLUE.

I have Comcast triple play. Not sure what the price will be when my year is up. I had some outoing e-mail issues that they were not helpful with but the problem cleared itself up for whatever reason. Comcast was very helpful getting the tv codes working. Also had Comcast install an additional phone jack. Happy with that as the wireless phone jack I had purchased was not working - too much static. Have had some wait times on the phone. TV and phone work well - no problems. Internet downloads are super fast - love that feature.
