Hi,
I just joined TOTV and was wondering about the availability of golf at different times of the year in TV?
My house is under contract in CO. and I was looking at buying in TV or Green Valley, AZ.
I here rumors that it is hard to get tee times in the winter in TV.
I am interested in both the exec and championship courses.
Any input would be appreciated.

Hi Bill,

Welcome to TOTV. Bottom line, I think the availability of golf is directly proportional to your flexibility. If you request tee times from 8 - 9 am on one or two courses you are likely to not get what you want. If you can widen your selection of courses and times, you are likely to be much more selective.

There are some really good recent threads on this, so I don't want to repeat all the same data.

Bill - we haven't been here long, but my husband plays in a league on M, W, & Friday mornings. (Wednesdays they do an executive course). There is an awesome deal right now where you can play the country clubs after 5:30 for $5.00. You can usually get in at least 12 holes for a really good price and it is cooler than the afternoons.

We have visited twice and TV exceeded our expectations both times. Hopefully we will be renters or owners/snowbirds next winter. If I have one concern (and my friend who is over at Sun City constantly reminds me) That the cost to play the championship coures three to four times per week for five to six months (80to100 rounds)could get costly. He claims he is better off paying $1,800.00 dues per year for free golf at seven courses. Anyone have friends over there that feel the same way?
I understand TV offers premium dues for reduced greenfees.
Maybe with pickelball (never played) and softball I won't be golfing four times a week?
I wonder if TV will ever offer a form of golf membership making a few courses either private or semi-private?

Hi Bill,
When I request tee times, for both Champion and Exec courses, I always indicate at leat a four hour window (9:00 Am - 1:30 PM), and I always request at least three courses. I have been doing this for over two years and in all that time I have received my first choice in all but three times. I usually golf three times a week, (2 Champion and 1 Exec Course) from January through June. Like it was mentioned earlier, the more flexible you are, the easier it is to get a tee time.

I play championship golf every Sat and every Sunday. I NEVER had a problem getting a t-time.... not once.

It is hard to get tee times during the season. But if your flexible as to times and courses you can usually get in. I have a group of 12 that tries to play togather on Sunday mornings. We've had to split into 3 foursomes during Jan, Feb, March in order to get tee times. Snowbirds definitely clog the system so you have to work it.

Obviously there is no problem in the summer, with all the snowbirds up north. The winter is a different story. I play a lot on the championship (18 hole) courses, and as a priority member, I can get tee times generally in the time and course I want, if I make the tee time well in advance ( say a week or 5 days). You have to buy the priority membership which gives you discount rates on the courses and gives you priority on the tee times. Money well spent. The executive courses are a different story. You need to put a wide window in on your course(s) and time request, and you'll generally get on. And you must make the tee times well in advance in advance if you want to play. You can't for the most part wake up iin the middle of February and say, "I'd like to play one of the Executive courses today". Unless there is a cancellation, it will be very difficult to get on, particularly if you're a twosome. So just remember to make the tee times in advance, keep a large window of time - at least 2-5 hours, and select a large number of exec courses, and you should be fine i.e. your request should be granted.

This fall they will open 5 more executive courses, that will make 486 holes for golfing in The Villages.

some of the answers. I have been in TV 5 years. I am not fussy about having to play at a certain time or on a particular course. Hence I have NEVER not gotten a t time....EVER!!!

In my experience the complaints about getting a t time are usually when folks don't get to play when and where they want. As has been stated by many, if you are flexible you will not have a problem golf ANY day you choose, slow or busy season.

I have yet to meet ANYBODY who has ever not gotten a t time if the system is used as designed....period!!!

Don't forget the alternatives in the winter months. We have a group of golfers who sometimes can't get the tee times we'd like so we just head out to one of about 20 good courses within 30 minutes of TV, at the same price or less than the championship courses. The travel time is similar to getting in your own cart and traveling to many TV courses. And most of the outside courses are high quality and challenging. Also, in the summer, we like to play some of the outside courses when they offer ridiculously low rates.

All in all, golf in and around TV is pure heaven!!!

You can always call the pro shop on the day you want to play and usually they will fit you in an empty spot. It's best to plan ahead and be a priority member. For the wife and myself it's about $1K a year for the priority membership. I've never had a problem getting a tee time anytime of the year and it's usually my first choice. Time may be within thirty minutes of my selected time and on the course I've selected.

True they are working on 5 new executives, but only 1 maybe 2 will be open this year. The remaining will be open during 2010 from what I have heard.
