Question Newly Single

At one time, I believe last Sept. John Marshall, ESQ published an article titled "Advice for the Newly Single" and it was under the name of Bogin, Munns and Munns Law Firm. The essence of the article was to point out that "Under Florida Law the surviving spouce cannot be held liable for the debts of the deceased spouse...." etc. It contained enough substance to stimulate, that if a person has lost a spouse it may be worthwhile to call this law firm to understand the details of this point. The number highlighted in the article was 352-391-6031.

While the spouse may not be liable for debt, the estate certainly is.
When you die owing money, they'll sell all your stuff to pay it off. Anything left goes to the spouse.
If there is nothing left, but still some debt, the surviving spouse (maybe) won't have to pay it.

If the debt is owed it is only fair the estate should pay the debt. Do under others as you would have them do unto you.
