Default Displaced Buffalonians?

Just wondering if there are any displaced Buffalonians in The Villages? I know that there is at least one...we saw the "Buffalo Bills" golf cart parked at the square on our Lifestyle stay last month...it looked great!
Please let me know if there are any clubs or get-togethers ever...I would love to join! We'll be there in 10 days....can't wait!
Go Bills!!!

Default Displaced New Yorkers?

Displaced New Yorkers, I guess...my better half is from Brooklyn, with family in Deer Park. I lived in West Seneca...sounds like an interesting reversal!

My husband and I live in East Amherst. Our 3 kids graduated from UB. We have been in Buffalo for 22 years and will be moving to The Village of Bonita in January. We are not native Buffalonians. We both grew up in NYC area and lived in Denver for 14 years.

I must admit that the Broncos are my husband's favorite football team but the Bills are a close second place. The Sabres however are #1!

We hope to meet you in TV.

We saw Rocky and the Rollers in Buffalo last Tuesday night at UB. They were the backup band to Bowser of Sha Na Na. They were great but got very little recognition. The opening act was John Stevens of American Idol fame. He is one of my wife's former students.

I guess that will have to hold us over until we get back to The Villages in September.

Are any of you Buffalonians familiar with the game Kan Jam? It is a western NY creation that is spreading nationally. The annual World Championship was held today in North Tonawanda. Our extended family are avid fans and are now playing it in Denver, Boise and Charlotte. We will be bringing the game to The Villages in January.

Default Kan Jam?

I'm looking forward to hearing about and learning Kan Jam...can you give us a brief description of the game?
We saw Rocky and the Rollers twice last month on our visit...they were great! And John Stevens was the red-headed crooner from Buffalo, right? He was very good and I enjoyed watching him....we Western New Yorkers take a lot of pride in our own!

Default kan jam

bob s - I've seen kan jam being played up here in WNY.... part of the activities next friday at the company picnic... Have seen it also in Chestnut Ridge park along with "Frisbee Golf"... the county/state park has an official FG course! Nothing though will replace the memories growing up in Ridgewood Queens , of playing 'stickball' in the streets!! (I see you're from Glendale).....

ceejay - I have seen Bklyn clubs and Queens clubs too online... visit that Virginia Trace website... links to it all!!!

PS - to all you Bills fans ... Ralph Wilson Jr just finished a great Footbal HofF acceptance speech... Bruce is yet to come!

We brought a whole gang down here from WNY. I think we have around 15 of us on the old side so far. We thought it would be easier to bring all of our friends rather than making new ones, lol.

There is a WNY club that meets at Paradise aon the third (I think) Saturday, and we have attended seveal of their functions. They are a fun group. Quite a few loyal Bills fans watch the games at Tony Paco's (formerly Crazy Gringo's). Hope to see you around!

Smile Kan Jam and Stickball

Ceejay - Kan Jam is a game played with teams of two people each. There are 2 open topped plastic cans with a slot in the side of one face of the can. The cans are about 50 feet apart. One player throws a frisbee and tries to either hit the can or get it in the top or slot. His partner is at the other can and can help deflect it into the can. There are various points given based on the result. The 2 teams alternate shots until 21 points. It is a really fun and addicting game. Look for it in The Villages in January.

Ripwho, I loved stickball growing up. We played in a schoolyard against a brick wall with a chalked box for the strike zone. You could play for many hours with only 2 people, pitcher against hitter. It's too bad that kids today have lost those unstructured games. Everything is organized into official leagues and needing parent involvement.

Smile Displaced "Buffalonians"

Hi Buffalo natives. My sister and I were born in the "Fruit Belt" in Buffalo (Orange Street) and we both worked at the "Courier-Express" until its demise in 1982. We now live in Hamburg, NY and we bought a home in the Village of Duval in 2007. We are still working but plan on retiring very soon. We are using our home for vacations now, coming down again at the end of October with 3 of our girl friends for a "Girls Week". We absolutely love it and can't wait until we can at least be there for the winter months for now. We love reading TOTV and are very happy to hear all of the wonderful comments. We have "Empty Nests" watching our house in the meantime and are very happy with them. BTW, we live 4 miles away from "The Ralph" and are Bills fans along with the Sabres. JanetandCarol

Hi Janet and Carol...I was born in the Delavan/Grider area in Buffalo and lived in West Seneca (Orchard Park border) after I was married...I loved the Courier Express and mourned it's demise...we should never have been a "one newspaper town"! And I was about 4 miles away from "The Ralph", too...only going the other way!
PS My son and his family live in Hamburg...the Bethford area. Are you nearby?

Born in Batavia and grew up in Akron. I sure miss Perry's Ice Cream or Wegman's for that matter. Perry's makes all of Wegmans brand. We have the Bills logo on our house sign and holf cart. Anyway I have met lots of people from WNY down here. Lots of Bills fans. If you are from WNY and not a Bills fan there is something seriously wrong with you. Anyone going to the Jacksonville game?

Hi Ceejay, we live in the Armor area near Draudt's farm. I don't know the area where your son is. How long have you lived in the Villages? Are you far from Duval? Do you ever come back to visit Buffalo? We plan on keeping our house for a few years for the summer. Yes, it was sad about the Courier closing, but my sister and I have done better with our jobs since then. I work for an environmental company in Lancaster, NY. Ecology & Environment for the past 23+ years. My sister Carol works for the Federal gov't. Hope to meet you when we finally come down for the winter. Janet
