Default Parking Enforcement

In the un-named news source--its mentioned that the Lady Lake PD is going to start enforcing parking regs @ Spanish Springs--There is a photo of a car parked in front of the La Reina Bldg--The "No Parking" signs are portable signs placed there by Hertz car rental--These parking signs IMHO should not be subject to enforcement--since Hertz parks their rental cars there--no parking means no parking for all cars

I think the laws should be enforced. If the law is no longer needed then it should be repealed.

The portable signs take a little more information. I can see using then for a funeral and their could be other reasons.

The problem is how do we know that these are ligitmate signs?

For the signs to be ligitmate they would have to be authorized by a governmental body.

Not necessarily true.

If the parking area is private property (not saying that this is), 'No Parking' signs can be put up by the land owner...and still enforced by the police.

And then there's the chance that it's actually Lady Lake property and Hertz has permission/an agreement with them.

They could always issue warning 'tickets' for the areas with the temporary signs, and the real tickets for all of the other areas and infractions.

Good point.

That might be exactly what 'they' are planning.

This site never fails to amaze me. There have been countless threads and comments about the lack of parking enforcement. Now that it looks like the Lady Lake Police is actually going to start enforcement of parking, the first comment is certain sighs for no parking should'nt be enforced. I say about time, and I'll help write the tickets. Now only if Sumter County would do the same in LSL....

Do we really want strict enforcement or just enforcement for others?

Do you have a golf cart that does more than 20mph and does not have plates on it?
It is illegal to be on the wrong side of the street to drop stuff off etc.
Discussed on another thread-do you use turn signals?

IF you read the post they mentioned TEMPORARY NO PARKING SIGNS. Parking is not really a problem unless you are LEGITIMATELY HANDICAPPED. You might have to walk a little bit SO WHAT. Temporary no parking sign? We've all seen those where someone decides they will save a spot for themselves. You are no authorized to place no parking signs. If, you check you will find you do not own the road in front of your property.

I'm all in favor of enforcing parking rules and traffic laws, BUT....it sounds like this vehicle was parked on the street in front of a building, and the "no parking" sign was erected by Hertz. No, no, no and a thousand times NO. Hertz does not get to designate parking rules on a public street (IF that was the situation). It's like the people in NYC or Boston who think they own the spot in front of their house, and even put out orange cones, even worse if they shoveled snow out of it. Sorry Hertz if it is less "convenient", maybe this is why Avis tries harder

I think those signs are placed on the circular driveway at the rear entrance to the building, so it's not a public street. It very well may be allowed in the rental contract Hertz has with the developer.

Hence the conditional "IF". The OP stated "in front of the building"---IF it was private property in the rear, they can make whatever parking rule they want

They can tow cars if they want to on private property, but they can't ask LEO's to issue parking tickets--since the developer owns the town squares--shouldn't the same rule apply and for all parking lots

The developer owns the land in the square itself, the roads around the square belong to the county.

I'm my opinion we should help out the businesses we have here in the villages. 1 parking spot, probably for customer pickup when they rent from them. If you don't live near Hertz than I guess you will complain when you go over to that area. If you live in the area you probably use Hertz. We have so many unoccupied stores here now because we don't frequent them. 1 car spot, is that too much to give up?
