Default Just Saw An Accident - Passenger Ejected From Golf Cart

At approx. 4PM today I witnessed a woman get ejected from a golf cart. The cart was traveling east on Pinellas Place and turned left into Asher Path. The woman passenger was ejected onto the roadway of the westbound lane of Pinellas Place.

I stopped to call 911 and assist. Since she was in a traffic lane I pulled my car into the lane to protect her from oncoming traffic.

She was bleeding profusely, including from her ear. This is an assumption on my part, but I doubt she was wearing a seatbelt given the speed at which she was ejected.

TVPSD responded promptly.

Please say a prayer for her, and the driver of the cart.

That sucks. Hopes she is alright and the bleeding from the ear was just a superficial abrasion. The driver must feel terrible, since it is possible he/she took the turn too quickly. Quick thinking on your part to block traffic--a lot of people will render assistance, then a daydreaming driver comes along and creates a real tragedy

I wish it was just an abrasion. The external portion of the ear looked fine, but a river of blood coming from the canal.

We were headed out at about this time. Police directing traffic coming out of Asher Path. Why can't people slow down and get/wear seat belts? Would probably have saved her from falling out of the cart.I hope she recovers quickly.

Went to Colony for Mexican food---passed the site of the accident and I agree, the blood stain was far too big for an abrasion. Just hope she didn't fracture her skull.

Some people do seem to take the turns way too fast in a golf cart. I went to a movie with one of these way too quick carters and have always found some kind of excuse not to go out with him again. His wife does not like the Harry Potter, Marvel comics, James Bond type movies we both share an affection for. And he does not have seat belts in his cart. I did have to hang on with some of these turns.

Bad that the person was injured but her lucky day that you were the one to help her. Divine intervention. Bravo dbussone. Prayers for all involved.

I am the cart that everyone passes. I am going to drive at the speed I feel safe no matter what anxiety fit someone behind me may have. Also whoever is driving with me in the cart has to agree to stay off the cell phone and pay attention as we navigate around TV. A quick evasive action to avoid someone in our lane or just driver error and the passenger is sent flying. I wear a seatbelt in the cart and offer it to a passenger at their option. The paying attention thing is not optional...it's a long walk home if they don't comply.

It sounds like she was very lucky someone like you was the first on the scene.

Here's hoping she will be OK.

Seatbelts really are a very cheap and effective way...of helping to avoid this type of incident.

We don't know why this passenger fell from the golf cart. It could have been speed? It could have been an inappropriate turn? It could have been because of an illness? It could have been the passenger was simply not seated properly? What we do know is a person fell and this person appeared to be injured.

We may not know why this person fell from the golf cart, but I think it's safe to say she wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

How horrible for everyone involved, including you, DB. She'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

I agree, if you don't have seat belt or don't use them people need to brace themselves by extending they're legs and holding onto the side arm. By pushing your legs no the slant of ththe floor board it wedged you back in the seat. Along with holding on to the side rail this reduces your changes of being thrown out. Even it I got set belts on when riding I do this. Short people may have to put they're feet on th corner of the dashboard or use pillow to reach some support.

Declining to wear the seat belt is not optional if they are a passenger in our cart. What is optional is that they can walk.
