Angry What's With All the Potholes?

What's with all the pot holes that have turned up on Morse and Buena Vista?
It reminds me of what the streets look like after a snowy season up north.

Even some of them that have been "filled," are terribly done. Are they going to be filled and repaired properly?

Sounds like a question for the County.

a)Population = > 100,000 : b) limited number or roads to travel : c) potholes

a + b = c

Their lack of ability to meet your standards is not their fault, but a greater number of potholes to fill on a yearly basis would likely yield better results and meet your standards. Pick one.

I was raised by good Southern Baptist parents who were active in our Church. My father used to say you never mention the potholes in the parking lot because you will become the Chairman of the Pothole Committee. Moral to this story: Be careful what you mention. ❤️

I didn't think potholes happened where there wasn't salt and extreme cold but they do. The streets are owned by Sumter, Lake and Marion counties. The responsibility for their maintenance rests with them.

The way the villages was set up is different than most gated communities. Most communities have to take care of their own roads. For the villages the counties accepted the roads and have to maintain them. Thus you are part of the whole county maintenance program and will have to complain to your local officials.

It's possible that they are a by-product of our drought... and are just 'mini-sinkholes.'.

Still not as bad as the car-swallowing ones during breakup...that so many Northerner's still have to deal with.

As mentioned already, they are now the responsibility of the particular county they are in...unless they're in a CYV village.

It wouldn't surprise me to learn, that local auto repair/front end alignment shops...are blocking calls to the county maintenance shops.

IMHO, I have watched a few roads being constructed, and it appears the norm is to pave (a rough coat) and then after some period of time the final coat is applied. I am guessing that there was insufficient asphalt in the top coat and it did not stick well to the base, or some oil, water, etc., was dropped from other equipment, resulting is a weak bond. After time the bond fails completely, and you get a 1 inch pot hole. These are unsightly, and do reflect badly on the overall beauty of The Villages. It would be nice if the developer would exercise some of their considerable power and have a discussion with the counties regarding this matter.

Also, as pointed out above, the repair crews need some lessons on how to do the repair correctly.

One other correction, the roads in the Villas are owned and maintained by the villages developer, all of the other roads are county roads.

All the roads/streets except the Villa streets are maintained by the County. I think a couple of the County Commisioners live in The Villages. Contact them.

The repair work is very "poor and shoddy". The County can certainly do better.

They were patching potholes on Morse Blvd in the area north of Mallory CC today. They have patched these same areas several times before.

rjm That is why this is not a gated community. the roads except for CYV are owned and maintained by the county. If this was truly a gated community village residents solely would be paying for the building and mantaining of roads within TV

These observations are correct and it makes you wonder about the road building process. Generally, the developer builds the roads and then turns them over to the county. When you observe that large sections of Morse Blvd. south of Hillsborough were torn up and repaved in under three years, it makes you ask why.

Were the design specifications and material specifications correct? Did the actual construction conform to the design and material specifications? Who from the county inspected the construction and materials while construction was taking place?

How would any of us know those answers?
