Question Alligator vs. Dog.

A neighbor was telling me a story that I found kind of hard to believe but said it was from The Villages Daily Sun. The neighbor sometimes pulls my leg with stories so I wanted to see if this tale is real?

He related that an alligator grabbed a small dog in the Villages near a pond and then the pooch grabbed a tree limb with its mouth and the owner was able to rescue the animal by getting it out of the water. This was not clear. The brave fido had to get operated on because of various injuries from the alligator's teeth as well as all the debris from the tree limb that went into its stomach.

Anyone see this story in The Villages Daily Sun? I did not see anything on the site that must not be named nor linked about it.

My friend/neighbor does make a story often better than it was when he first saw it. And he might know the dog owner. I am not sure. He does go to Doggie Doo Run Run once in a while so he could have heard more details there. I go to various Villages' area dog parks as well as DDRR, the polo field, Sumter Landing, neighborhood circuits, etc.

No. But he loves to talk. And talk, and talk, and talk.... The Doggie Doo Run Run regulars are probably familiar with him. Some make a quick exit left. He is a good man though.

I didn't see anything about a tree limb but the rest of the story did indeed happen a while back and was reported in The Sun. It was a little white dog and the owner jumped in as the gator dragged it into the water and rescued it, albeit with some injuries.

My friend was probably trying to make the story longer.

yes, the story of a Villager saving his dog from an alligator is true. I met the man at a meeting of the Butterfly Garden Club. He admitted it was probably not a smart thing to do, but he just reacted. The funniest part of the story he told me is when he went into the house with the dog, his wife scooped the dog up to take to the vet but left him there to fend for himself.

Did the dog really need to get its stomach emptied of tree limb segments? My friend's wife might have got this story from the Butterfly Garden Club with these details not in the newspaper.

there was something in the paper not so long ago about this. And apparently, the dog did swallow some branch pieces and they had to be removed. His leg was also badly injured and had to be amputated. However, I don't think this was in The Villages....somewhere else in the state.
