Default Trip to Key West October 2010

I am wondering if anyone is planning a trip to Key West the end of October next year? Wife and I would like to go and stay a couple of days, but are having problems finding a room.

Did you look up B&B's on the Internet?

October in Keywest is their annual FantasyFest---Halloween week. Don't know if you have heard of it or not but it is quite the "event." That is probably the reason you can't find a place to stay.

sandybill2,

Thanks for the response. We are aware of FantasyFest and looking forward to attending. We really like all the art work that has been posted on the internet. We have been looking at the pictures and videos. It would be nice if we could get a group to attend so that we could all enjoy the event.

We just returned from our 5th Fantasy Fest. Had a great time and will be going next year again we hope. During Fantasy fest most of the B & B have a 3-5 night minimum and the Hotels charge an extra 50%-100% for Friday and Saturday nights. if you have never been I would reccomend going for at least 4 nights if not 6 or 7. The vibe is alot different Monday through Thursday than it is on Friday and Saturday when many kids come down.

OpusX1,

Any suggestions as to B&Bs we should try to get a room in? We were thinking arriving on Wednesday and leaving on Monday, so that we would have part of the week the whole weekend. We have never been to Key West so would like to do some day side trips as well.

We stayed here for Fantasy Fest one year it was a great place. Our room door opened up right into the pool. Great balcony for the parades.

There are tons of great B & B's in KW. We have Stayed at Herron House and it was great. We go. almost every year so we bought a Hyatt Timeshare on the resale market so we now have a two bedroom condo for our visits. If you go try to stay in Old town. Then you will not have to drive. We have to find parking which sometimes is expensive, Our place is about 3 miles from Mid Duval St. which is where the action is. If you stay at a B & B or Hotel make sure you ask about parking. Here is a great website for Key West. Lots of good information and reviews. I just wrote a trip report. It s on the 2nd page now under FF trip report LONG. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum...s_Florida.html. Let me know if you need any more information. Just checked my trip report is on page 3 now.

Research your B & B. There are a few that cater to men only or women only. Some have clothing optional pools or decks if that offends you. Most are just regular B & B's.

Great trip report. Sounds as if one has to be on top of things in regards to getting scammed by the restaurant/bar staffers in that region.

While most people are very friendly and honest there are a few looking to scam you. It is an expensive enough place without losing money. We love to go to KW and will continue to make at least one trip a year as long as we can. I tell people that KW is not a place as much as it is an attitude.

OpusX1,

Clothing optional anything would not offend us. We enter the world wearing nothing and we leave the same way. Now the men or women only we would have a problem with staying there.

Under55,

Great B&B. Tried to check for availability next October, can't go that far out. I will have to check the site during this summer.
