There's going to be a New Year's eve party at Lake Miona. I was wondering if anyone knew from past years if this is a dressy event. We're thinking of going but I don't want to get all decked out if it's casual. The tickets read BYOB and bring your own snacks so dinner won't be served.

Based on the problem with the 8:00 curfew being pushed, you might want to check first to see if you can party 'til midnight. Seems like some don't care when or why, they just want to tell you when and why.

Good luck and sure hope you get to enjoy your festivities. That is why we moved here, right....to enjoy? Guess some don't see it that way. What a shame.

I agree that it would be nice if there were a celebration at the Town Squares until midnight, but I doubt that their removal was a result of some scheme to kill the fun here. In the case of downtown entertainment, the budget for this comes from the developer. Hence not only does this party come out of his pocket (which may be small potatoes, relatively speaking), but if someone were to get drunk and run over someone with a car or golf cart, I'm sure that the developer, as sponsor of the party and with immensely large pockets, would be the primary defendant in the subsequent law suit - which would certainly not be small potatoes!

The Developer also sponsors the Nightly Entertainment at the Town Squares. How is the liability between 9PM-12AM for a New Year Celebration greater than the liability from 5PM-9PM for nightly entertainment?

I'm sure the liability is the same - just that NY Eve tends to bring out (more) drunks. In addition, a primary beneficiary of the nightly entertainment is the merchants who benefit from the crowds of people who come for the entertainment. Successful merchants mean more rent for the developer who then runs his risk/reward algorithm and comes up with a positive for nightly entertainment. Since most merchants do not capitalize on activities beyond 9PM this reward is diminished and the risk is increased, thus tipping the scales toward ending the festivities at 9.

We're going to Lake Miona and the ladies in our group are wearing slacks with a top a little dressier than "casual". No one is getting all decked out but I would think anything goes. I'd bet there will be people there dressed to the nines and others casual (with us in-between).

Hi Nanci, I haven't been to it before either, but we are going to that party this year with some friends. I don't know about others, but for me it will be glitz-y elegance, ie festive, slinky, sparkly party wear, probably a skirt/top or party dress, and heels, with glitz-y jewelry. There aren't tons of opportunities here to dress up so I am grabbing the opportunity.

I think it will be one of those occasions where you will see people in various kinds of dress, so go with what you want.

One thing I believe about living here is that you should look the way you want to and wear what you want to - please yourself and express your individuality. People here are very accepting of each other.

Thanks Feeda - I'm into gllitzy and your point, there aren't many opportunities for heels and glitz.

I chuckled at some of the responses - I asked a question about what to wear and most responses were about curfew!

We went along last year but I really don't remember seeing anyone too glitzy or glamourous down at Lake Sumter. Maybe just a dressier top than usual.

We are going to that party, and going to dress up a little too. Sparkly top and heels anyway, might still go with slacks instead of a skirt though. Sounds like it will be fun no matter what you wear anyway!

I don't know about Lake Miona RECREATION CENTER (which by the way is not the public square) but I do know that friends of ours have several times attended the party thrown by the German Club at the Savannah Center on New Years Eve. They dressed to the nines. (Long dress, sparkling jewelry etc.)There was even a discussion of his wearing a tux.
