Default AAC Compensation

The AAC was elected a year ago to oversee the policies and procedures of the Recreation Amenities Division. This past year, these were unpaid positions. Now, the AAC has approved a recommendation to the VCCDD Board to begin receiving compensation of $200 per meeting up to $4800 per year. Individual members would have the ability to accept or deny compensation. District counsel opines that the AAC cannot approve compensation for themselves

This is from the Oct 15 minutes of the VCCDD Board.

I thought serving as an AAC rep was voluntary, and now they want to get paid? What have they done that is worthy of compensation.

Unless you think spending $26000 on a doggie park. Wasting there time on the belleaire gate and accomplishing nothing with the local incounty guest policy as accomplishing something.

Having been to 3 AAC meetings and talked by phone to my rep, I feel some compensation would probalby be justified.
HOWEVER - $200 per meeting seems a little high.
I feel something in line with most of the other part time jobs around TV would be more appropriate. Most of the "servers" & "hospitality hosts" & "gate guards" & "retail" people get about $7.50 per hour.
Now there's a starting point.

The members ran for office with a spirited election campaign. While running for office they knew that it was an unpaid position, let's keep it that way. They could always resign and have new volunteers take their place if they are now unhappy.

Compensation for expenses is fair and equitable. A reasonable mileage reimbursement for driving to meetings or anywhere on AAC business, meals consumed while out on business or at all-day meetings, overnight expenses if they have to travel somewhere on AAC business, things like that should be compensated. Compensation for time - No Way! This is a volunteer position and should stay that way.
