First, let me say we have been lurking for a few months now (this is my very first post), visited TV in September ((loved it!) and are planning a trip in January with the intention of looking very seriously at buying. We won't be retiring for a couple of years but my question is: given the recent information that Beck, Palin and Huckabee have either recently made appearances or are planning some in TV, as a couple of left leaning independents can we be happy in TV?

Let me also add that we are in WEST Michigan - the more conservative part of the state and are quite used to being in the minority!

My husband and I are originally from the most conservative areas of PA and NY. You'll do well here. The vast majority of the people in The Villages are having such a good time that they seldom talk politics in a public setting. I'll let you develop your own opinion of this Political Forum!

You'll absolutely love The Villages. This Website - "Talk of The Villages" (TOTV) is a treasure trove of great information and the members are so very helpful. Be sure to use the "Search" feature at the top of each page to find all of the good information that's been hashed over in the past. We've gotten so many good ideas and service providers from these pages. We just spent over $7,000 in renovations from people mentioned at this site. ... and we're totally satisfied. We've got another big job coming up and we've already selected painters and crown moulding installers from recommendations here. Our pest and lawn services were from here. Our sprinkler system man came from here. Our insurance agent from these pages. Our spa service from here ... and so on and so one.

As far as Beck, Palin and Huckabee go - we just carry garlic, a wooden stake, a silver spatula, and a star of David and the holy cross to ward them off! So far, no harm has come to my family.

From my point of view and I have been here for 9 years....political huffing and puffing is pretty much reserved for this arena !

The basic population is probably more conservative and the developer is very (financially) involved in Republican politics but there is NO WAY...EVER...IN ANY WAY....that someone who lives here and does not visit this forum would have any idea about any of that.

I think the paper here is very fair, and the folks you mention who are visiting are SELLING BOOKS !

Palin made a visit here during the campaign and it was well attended and publicized....Biden made a much lower key visit also.

Believe me...POLITICS IS not a reason to move here or not move here AT ALL !!!

one has an R or D after their name is this forum. And it is pretty much like on a CB in the old days....folks get pretty big and bold and brave in an anonymous setting.

Is it an issue anywhere you currently live? Where you shop? Dine? Play? Go to church?

Same here. By all means do not use this forum and it's reputed behavior as a guide for anything other than.....huffing and puffing.
