Moved to the Villages better than six years ago...I read the police blotter each Monday morning in the Daily Sun...Used to be that there were no persons living in The Villages listed in the blotter, then little by little there was one, and then there were two, and so on...Now every week there are always two or more persons living in The Villages answering to some kind of criminal charges...and you guessed it, they are all UNDER 55.

Not "all" Bogey. There are a few senior rascals in the barnyard occasionally.

Default Explanation

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Mine is the developer in his greed to build and sell, build and sell......little thought is given to the age of the purchaser, period! And we residents who are over 55 are usually the ones to see the effects.

I've noticed several incidents of those arrested who reside in TV being over 55 -- I think the oldest I noticed was 82. Most were for DUIs, some for domestic abuse (which truly saddens me), a couple of shoplifters ....

I can't argue that the developer is greedy to the nth degree but this is one I can't blame on him. Many of those arrested under 55 here are much younger -- usually children or even grandchildren over 19 living with TVers because of problems in their past. Sadly, those problems travel with these "youngsters." They don't just go away because they move to TV.

Fortunately, the more serious crimes (other than the occasional shooting of spouses), seem to happen outside of our community. While I know there are drugs in TV, I haven't noticed any narcotic arrests of Villagers. I do wonder how many grow houses exist in TV, though.

I believe Florida law states that a 55+ community has to allow a certain % of under 55's to purchase a home there. If this is the case, how can the developer be blamed for that?

Sounds like you are making an assumption that all of the under 55 residents own here. Is it not possible that a fair number of under 55 are actually adult children living with the parents who own here?

Default I am sure you know more about this than me Gatb.

I don't know the Morses. They may be greedy as all Hell. They may have the heart of Mother Teresa. I do know that a community developers' usual goal is to build houses and sell them. It's the American way.

The Morse family has been very successful in this planned project and this planned project brings a lot of mature people to a place where they have a large number of choices for their leisure time at a pretty affordable price.

I imagine that the developers could have done it better.....but they sure could have done it a whole lot worse. Seemes to me that The Villages is a better mousetrap.

Now about those kids of under fifty.............

Default Curfew!!!!!

How about this: Under 55 a 7:00 curfew. Lets see, I'm 67. All over 67 no curfew. All between 55-66 a 10:00 curfew

Good point.

And renters, visitors etc. I'm not sure that "greed" was the correct word to use.
