North's career shows an undeniable streak of deceit and misuse of the trust of colleagues and the American public. His most significant betrayal was engineering the trade of arms to Iran along with aiding the Contras in Nicaragua. You're welcome to admire anyone you choose, however as far as I'm concerned, he's a criminal who acted above the law. And I think this thread belongs in POLITICAL.

Speaking as a Senior Army Officer, Ollie was given a mission or as we say, a "tasking", and he did it. He did not think of it on his own or act on his own. That is all I will say. We are all entitled to our own thoughts on it.
Do you think I think less of my wife since she assisted him in it? I don't think so! She is my hero!

According to North's sworn testimony, his primary effort was coordinating covert sales of weapons to the government of Iran, and then funneling those profits to buy weapons for the Contra army in Nicaragua, acitivites which he admitted were illegal actions. His defense was that he was "just following orders". According to the Uniform Code of Military Justice, it is a soldier's duty to disobey illegal orders. North spent a year in Vietnam. Is it possible that somehow he never heard of the My Lai Massacre?

Since when is it heroic to shred documents needed for a government investigation, to lie to Congress about the National Security Council's activities and to alter official memoranda and chronologies to suit one's own purposes? And what's heroic about helping create a secret foreign policy contrary to our country's publicly stated intentions and laws? That's all I will say about it - we are all entitled to our own thoughts and opinions, and mine is he displayed total disregard for the Constitution.

Taj, I am very well versed in UCMJ, having 30+ years and be the member of many a board.
Just curious if you have ever served at Senior Army Level of any kind, to really be aware of what goes into development and execution of our National Goals, Policies and Objectives that are written by the NSC? And actions there in?
And My Lai, is still debated to this day.
