Default Is this legal

The other day I witnessed a woman riding a scooter in excess of 30mph, in the golf cart lane on St. Charles

The scooter had tags on it- since the scooter is not a golf cart -I believe the scooter should have been in the car lane

First of all, the driver was speeding so I guess that was illegal right there. The speed limit on the MMP is 20 MPH. I'm not sure if what she was driving was illegal or not. I've never seen a scooter on the MMP.

Having said that.....I did see someone walking his dog on the golf course cart path in the middle of the day. Is that legal? That was the first time I ever saw a dog being walked on a golf course.

Wouldn't the scooter have delayed your travels in the car lane? Then we would have a different problemo! Maybe she was having operating difficulties. How many people are concerned with the speed limit?

Maybe I read the OP's post incorrectly, but I don't think the scooter was on a MMP.

It sounded to me like it was in the striped cart lane...on St. Charles Street (blvd/circle/place/? ).

When I first got a scooter and got it registered, the woman who gave me the plates actually suggested I ride it on the MMPs and multimodal paths. She also said that if I did do that, I would have to follow the speed limit of 19.9 mph. Since I felt much safer there, that is exactly what I did. Never had an issue with a car, cart or police officer. Never was convinced this was entirely legal but I did follow the speed limit laws and never endangered anyone.

No longer have the scooter and not sure I would still follow this advice since too many cart drivers are in too much of a hurry and it is easy to go the speed limit or beyond on a scooter. So, would probably travel on the road today.

Licensed scooters 49cc or larger are not allowed on MMP, I've read this some where but can't remember where? Also this has been topic before? Now if you got mini bike, or elect scooter above that can't be licensed I would think the MMP and diamond lanes are legal? IMO 49 CC scooter which limited to 35 MPH (fast it will go without modifying) no different than LSV which has to be licensed. IMO any scooter over 90 CC is motorcycle. Anything less is scooter and limited to which roads they can travel. IMO the local roads are safer for licensed scooters than MMP. Bicycles and people want to ride and walk 2 or more abreast which is dangerous, especially on curves and blind spots. Most of this is my opinion except the first sentence, so have fun blasting it.

Yes, you are correct if it was licensed and 49cc or more.

Wasn't on MMP was in diamond lane and I think the diamond lane has the same speed limit as the street? I think the speed limit on st. Charles is 30? If so? the scooter wasn't speeding, but if it got passed who would be speeding? Most vehicles going down st Charles speed IMO? I also see golf carts exceeding 30 MPH going down st Charles.

As for the dog walking, depends on which golf courses. In Spanish springs quit few course have MMPs around them. Good example one that runs through Chula Vista down to driving range.

Where did you learn the speed limit on the MMP is 20mph? Fact not here say.

Yesterday as I turned from St. Charles onto Bailey Trail I was behind a Vespa type scooter. He was going about 20 mph and after about 50 yards he pulled over to the cart lane and let me and another car behind me pass him. I was grateful since I didn't want to drive at 20 mph, I didn't think twice about it until I read this thread.

So the scooter was going 30 mph and you complained, what if he was going 20 mph in the car lane, would you have complained about that? I think the scooter driver was just using his brain.

Just be happy he wasn't in an old Town Car, doing 20 and you would be stuck for 5 miles--it happened to me
