Default Mccain a hero

Is it true that the National Capital only flew the Flag at half staff for one day in honor of John McCain ??? I am hoping that it isn't true ...

Thirty days for a president. Ten days for a vice president.

Not sure how long a Senator is supposed to be.

There was no love lost between the president and Senator McCain, but I too thought the flag at the White House should have flown longer in his memory than one day.

Standard procedure for a Senator is until interment. WH flag was raised early.

Copied from The US Department of Veterans Affairs concerning US Flag Etiquette :

" The flag is to be flown at half-staff at all federal buildings, grounds and naval vessels in the Washington, D.C., area on the day and day after the death of a United States senator, representative, territorial delegate, or the resident commissioner from the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. It should also be flown at half-staff on all federal facilities in the state, congressional district, territory, or commonwealth ."

I think we all know what happened here. But do things like this really matter? You're dead. You don't know what level on the pole the flag is. He lived a long adventurous life and died surrounded by family who have a lot of memories and such. It doesn't come down to who puts a flag where IMO. I wouldn't care less personally.

The flag was flown the requisite amount of time at the White House. Longer would have been optional. Given the animosity between the two, I expected no more from this administration.

The question was how our veterans may feel about the flag being raised from half mast so quickly for a Senator who was a war hero.

Fortunately, public outcry won. The flag is again at half mast and will remain there until at least the viewing in the Rotunda and, hopefully, until internment.

And I very carefully didn’t say how I felt about the flag not being at half mast, just that the administration had the right to raise the flag. I’m not a veteran but was raised in the military. To me, Trump’s action was petty but expected. McCain is getting the honors he deserves — as a war hero, as a respected Senator, as a man who has been honorable throughout his life. I admired Sen. McCain, more than many politicians I have personally known and more than most who got my vote. But the flag being all the way up the pole or just halfway at the White House takes nothing away from Sen. McCain, the honors most choose to bestow on him, the respect given him from both sides of the aisle.
