Over the past few months between my wife and I we have experienced our primary care doctor offering, lung function test, ultra sound for various organs/functions for example carotid artery scan, etc.

An appointment would be made for the procedure, at the primary care providers offices, when a technician would come in with the appropriate equipment to do the job.

The procedures of course are directly (or remotely) related to what one went to see the doctor for in the first place.

However in the past, these kinds of procedures were accomplished after referral to and follow up by a medical specialist ...i.e. cardiologist, pulmonary specialist, et al.

I am unsure of my comfort level with the primary care provider functioning in this manner. They certainly are not allowing the use of their facility free of charge (I really do not know).

I am curious whether others have had such experiences.
And I am interested in the opinions of other residents.

My primary care doctor does dermatology procedures using liquid nitrogen. However, when he files an insurance claim, they refuse to pay for it because he is not certified, so I get it done for free. It has happened several times.
