I was wondering if anyone has any experience with installing Hurricane Shutters on home windows in TV? I have been considering this and dont know too much about it.
What are the regulations from TV as to shutters? I saw a corrugated plastic type of shutter at the Lake Sumter market that was said to be self installable. Does anyone have any experience with them?

What kind are the best? And are they needed at all?

I have seen a few houses above 466 that have hurricane shutters but they were powered roll down with manual over ride. I haven't heard anything positive or negative since strong hurricanes here are rare. Down our way (below 466A) houses are built to different codes since Florida changed the hurricane codes. Irma caused no window damage that I'm aware of, besides, isn't that what insurance is for?

I do not think we need them. Our windows meet the latest Hurricane code. Our home is seven years old.

It is rare to have a Hurricane here where we live. I know of no window breakage from Irma.

If you were in S. Florida then shutters are required on all new home sales. My last home came with steel shudders and it took me almost all day to install. I later replaced my biggest and heaviest shutters with accordion shutters but then moved here before having to use them. Since here I'm taking a chance without shutters since we are in a much less likely spot to have strong hurricanes. I haven't seen ads on shutters here which are common in W. Palm Beach and south. The biggest thing about shutters is to protect a window from being broken by flying debris which can let the wind in and lift the roof.

This is an easy one. Don't waste your money. Assuming you have a Villages site built home. The windows are hurricane rated. They were just tested with Irma, and I know of nobody that had one break. I have 2 rental homes in TV south of 466A. The renters stayed in both, IRMA hit as a catagory 1 hurricane as a direct hit. No damage to either house. We did not even lose power or internet.

Just trust the way the house was built.

Think the best use for hurricane shutters is if you live on a golf course. I know of one house where errant golf balls shattered the same window four times ( it now has an acrylic window). Our risk is just not high enough to warrant them.
