Hope this thread turns out to be as much fun as the dog poop threads.

Default Ah yes. We had a LOT to say!

You, Pturner and Whelan are danged right!! We certainly heard a lot and learned a lot and were entertained, annoyed, amused and enlightened by that thread.

Many of us grew up in a world where it was sophisticated to smoke and I did.

But there is nothing worse than a reformed anything....I don't smoke anymore, and I don't like to smell it. I can't decide if it is because sometimes it smells bad and then sometimes it smells good.

I so agree. It seems lately everywhere you turn you see cig butts. I have no problem with people smoking, that is their choice, but be responsible and clean up after yourself. How would they like it if I tossed my beer cans all over after I am done!

You are right about the cigarette butts. AND, that it is up to the individual if they smoke or not.

BUT,one of the things I dearly love about this place is that it is impeccably, perfectly, absolutely CLEAN, no litter, no gum wrappers, no trash anywhere in the common areas...except...cigarette butts on the ground.

Even though they are removed daily, (or nightly, I don't know how they do it, it is almost magic,)...they return.

Before filters, you would field strip the butts and leave no residue. After filters, you would field strip the cigarette part and take the filters back to the latrine to toss.

Maybe an article in the Daily Sun about the proper way to field strip a cigarette would stop some of this littering.

zcaveman and Army Guy:

But too many people never learned 1) how to field strip a cigarette, 2) the reasons for doing so, or 3) the niceties of doing so!

When my daughter and her husband were here last weekend, we spent some time on Saturday geocaching. I was astounded at the amount of butts I saw while looking for the cache.

As a former smoker of close to 45 years, I am ashamed!

Sadly, I am a smoker. I try very hard to not litter. I've even been known to put the butts in my pocket rather than toss them on the ground. However, I'm not perfect (no comments from the peanut gallery, please) and I have on very rare occasions tossed the butt and felt guilty every time I did it. Sometimes there just isn't a reasonable place to put it (yeah, I know, wait to light up until I can get rid of it).

It would be nice if those in carts would put one of ashtrays in their cart -- they cost a whopping $1.00. The other day I actually chased a guy down who tossed his butt and it landed in my cart! We won't discuss that "discussion" other than to say I did not react like a lady and he had no doubt that I was an Army brat.

However, I wish butts were the only trash I see. I've seen cans, wrappers, bags, etc. Sadly, TVers don't seem to be much better about not littering than any other community. The plus here is that the trash is quickly picked up so that it rarely becomes an eyesore.

So, this is my mea culpa and my promise to do better and toss even less butts than I have in the past.

Could I have some cheese with this wine. What next? If you all want to wine a little be stuck in Cincinnati. It,s cold, damp, snowing, raining, cloudy and now there is dirt everywhere from the snow melting. Uck.
I will be free to return home end of this month. Then I am going to kick some dog due, puch out a couple of smokers, throw beer cans and soak up the sun. But only after I complain about how much the developer makes. Geezz

Actually a Marine - but I appreciate the compliment.

When my wife smoked she carried one of those cigarette compacts that opened up and she put her ashes and butts in there. She emptied it at home.
