Default Heat & Bugs...Arrrghhhh!

My husband and I are hoping to move to TV soon. Everytime we mention to anyone that we are moving to Florida, all they say is "...but what about the heat and I hear the bugs are horrible!" I am sooooo tired of hearing this and it's getting harder and harder to just nod and smile. What do you all say?

I just reply, "Let me see, three months of cold and snow, or three months of heat? It's a no brainer for me! AND, you might not have heard, but we have this new invention called an air conditioner!" That usually quiets them.

As far as bugs, we have been here over a year and have not had one problem with bugs in the house. We have had some not very pleasant encounters with fire ants outside, but pest control took care of that.

A lot of us "frogs" think summer is the best time in TV's. Come on down and enjoy!!

Thanks, Karen83. We are just so anxious to get moving (literally ) and sometimes I feel like no one understands. Once you've visited, you can't get it out of your system. Heat and bugs may make me wonder but going to the grocery store on a golf cart always makes me smile! Can't wait!

Waiting for my condo to sell. From New York and live in CT. I hope to be in TV ASAP. A friend of mine questioned why I would want to move to Florida as it so hot during the summer.

My responce was, what is the difference between having to stay in air conditioning if is too hot as staying indoors during the winter because it is so cold.

I never heard anyone say, it's so cold, I'll think I'll spend all day outside and freeze.

Another vote for the warmer weather, It would have to get awfully hot for me not to be around and about.

Can't take life too seriously, your not going to get out it alive anyway.

Dizz42, I hear you, I have inlaws that since we came home and told everyone we're moving, they've just been nasty and hard to get along with. I think they're just jealous.

There aren't that many bugs...and relatively few mosquitos. During the spring and fall we do have love bugs...little pains, but they don't bite or sting and they are only here for a few weeks at a time. They can damage the paint on your car if you don't wash or hose off the dead ones, but the past season was milder for the number of bugs around. Fire ants can cause some problems, but you can either have an insect control program with a few companies or buy special control granules and apply it yourself to the mounds that appear.

It can be hot and humid in the summer, but you don't have to be outside. All the buildings are cooled and you can keep your house at whatever temp you find comfortable.

I think when people think of Florida, they are reminded of the south of the state more than the center or the north. It's a tad different, a bit less humid here than in other parts, but remember, it doesn't SNOW!

Boy, does this sound familiar. It's gotten so that when asked where we were going to move to I kinda mumble and hem and haw and say "well ahh, we were thinking of Florida" when in fact we're really aiming for The Villages. We've gotten sick of hearing all the horror stories from people who haven't lived there. Although, my wife is a bit concerned about the humidity during the warm months.

I tell people that "We're moving to The Villages, we're not moving to Florida".

They either shut up at that point or they say "What you talkin bout Willis".

Dizz,

Been here 8 years. Our friendly Gecko's eat the bugs, haven't had an issue with them at all. As said above, everything is air conditioned. I love it here in the summer.

Very hot in summer.... No (yep, you heard that right) bugs of any consequence (which amazed me).

Default We're not buggy..

We lived in one of the most beautiful areas in NY state, the Hudson Valley and experienced hot and humid Summers with constant low cloud cover. Here in Florida I love the incredible light. There is no comparison. As for bugs, we haven't experienced a problem with bugs. When we lived on the ocean in south Florida "no seeums" were a big problem. I had to use bug spray in order to play golf. Have never had to do that here in TV. The Summers are great.

I've seen relatively few bugs here in TV especially.

Heat? midsummer the afternoons are hot, mornings and evenings are great
winter (such as it is), afternoons are great, morning and evenings cool

no big deal

Default What about storms?

How about that "lightning capital of the world". Are there a ton of those or do they come and go quickly?

Default Don you can agree!

Having come from Long Island don't talk to me about humidity. It really isn't that bad compared to LI. I worked outside, now I play outside. Yea it's hot in the summer but you know what I told people. I DON'T SHOVEL HEAT. As for the bugs we had nasty mosquitos and horse flies up north.Come on down the weathers fine and the pools are nicer.
