I've just finished reading the April issue of the POA newsletter. I believe it is the finest issue to date, with impressive stories on a proposed performing arts center, the recent "boil water" problem, lightning strikes, as well as regular updates on the AAC, etc.
In the past, some TV residents have criticized the POA for being too negative. This most recent effort is not only informative, but an excellent example of balanced, responsible journalism. Perhaps such good work will finally convince even the critics that the POA is a quality organization making a significant contribution to the TV community. |

I have to agree. I was one of those who was totally turned off by the POA, mostly because of the tone of its newsletters. But, over the past 9 months or so the tone is so much more reasonable and balanced. They got the message. There is a role for a totally independent homeowner's association and the POA appears to be better serving that role than in the past. Constructive criticism, not rants, inflammatory language, and constant attacks on the Developer and VHA. Kudos to them.
It'll be interesting to see if the Performing Arts Center gets off the ground. It is a wonderful concept but will take mucho $$ to accomplish.

The president of the POA, Joe Gorman, was interviewed on an NPR piece about The Villages. He definitely came across as a very happy resident andan undaunted advocate. A nice combination.

I agree with the above posters. The POA is a valuable tool but its approach turned a lot of people off. I wrote to them some time ago to this effect.
I hope they are listening here. These words of encouragement should be music to their ears. |

Kudos to the POA bulletin for the legwork on the P.A.L.M.S. Being a muscician (of sorts), it would benefit many folks in the Villages who believe in the Performing Arts.
I'm not crazy about the artist's rendering of the facade, but that point is moot at this time. Lets get the hole dug, foundation laid and get moving on this thing. And puleeeeeeez, OFF Village property. The Entertainment people already screwed up two concerts for us and how many others for musical groups they want to "control"? Jerry Jackson

Where can one find the POA Newletter? Is it a subcription service or an on line document?
Thank you very much! |

Keep in mind that the POA is an independent entity. Membership and fees you pay to join the POA are separate from the amenity fees you contractually pay when you purchase a home in The Villages.
Here is a link to this month's POA newsletter: http://www.poa4us.org/bulletins_file...etin201004.pdf And this is the link for the main POA website: http://www.poa4us.org/ |

It sounds like the new President is doing a great job and understand that working together to create a great environment is the key. Complaining, pointing fingers, etc. is much less effective and causes a lot of stress. I want to thank the current POA board and members for all there hard work.
We have just reserved a lot in Pennecamp and will begin building at the end of the year. We can not wait to become productive members of this great POA. Thanks again. Mike and Julie Mitchell |

I'm glad you brought my attention back to this site. The current newsletters do seem to bring more of both sides and present the argument on its face. It will be monthly reading for me.

We seem to all be in agreement. I just read my copy this morning and the tone is certainly far less strident. Congratulations POA.

I've only seen issues of the POA newsletter since October '09. I actually found it reassuring that there was an independent source of TV news and in-depth information that was not just a PR organ.
Homeowners do need independent analyses of issues that affect our community, our investment and our long-term costs and interests; and we do need a knowledgably advocacy group. It is not a criticism of the developer to acknowledge this. |

I came across the POA newspaper when I first moved here in 2001 while shopping at Sweet's Ace hardware. I have been reading it ever since. I am glad that they decided to go to home delivery.
I have found a lot of good articles in the paper. I do agree that they do harp on certain subjects - vinyl siding does come to mind. For us it was overkill but for those in the villages that were having the vinyl problem it was probably not enough. I am really surprised by the number of people that refuse to read it - and even pick it up out of their driveway. It is just another source of information - much like TOTV.

Excellent point Z - You can always choose to ignore it after you've read it.
