What options do I have for high speed Internet in the home?

I have yet to be ANYWHERE that there is no service...in TV....or anywhere else.

You will find that Verizon is STILL the most wide spread coverage.

I would check with Verizon reps to ferret out what the problem is you are having.

Verizon doesn't offer landline home telephone service or Internet service in The Villages, billiethekid. We don't have a landline phone in TV and we use a wireless card for Internet. I think Comcast offers the same services as Verizon for residences. I don't know about other providers.

BK What kind of pricing do they have for the wireless cards and what kind of speed do you get?

With AT&T, you have to have a contract plan for two years and they waive an activation. You can also get a free PC or laptop card. You get 200MB for $35 a month and the 5GB is $60 a month.

Just a question...we have Verizon cell phone service and the signal is very weak in our house. So would the Verizon air card use the same signal?

I can't speak for Verizon but with ATT you can sometimes have no phone service but have exellent 3G service. I assume Verizon is the same way.

I gave up my Comcast high speed internet a year or so ago and have been using the air card since.

The aircard works in TV and of course where ever their cell phones work and that is almost ANYWHERE.

Also, Verizon has a similar plan with a device called Mi Fi 2200 for $40 or $60 per month.
It is a portable "hot spot" that works off of the 3g network and will handle a connection of up to 5 wireless devices.
It works great anywhere you can receive Verizon 3g cell phone coverage.

TomH.... Have you personally used this device in and around TV? I'm very interested in this technology, but skeptical at using it for primary internet connection.

It is my only internet connection here in FL. And the advantage I also have is that at our lake home in TN it is my access there as well with my lap top. The ONLY alternatives there are dial up or satellite....dial up totally unacceptable for anything!! Satellite is too expensive.
I just recently got a new air card from Verizon and the alternative was the Mi Fi which offers what was noted in the earlier post. I elected for an updated air card. The reasons for not choosing Mi Fi is I don't need that many connections to the internet, but mostly it is a battery operated router and I did not want to deal with a device that needed charging.

When I decided to drop Comcast high speed internet, I knew Verizon was not going to be quite as fast as cable, however, for s surfing, emailing researcher Verizon has turned out to be adequare. Unless you are downloading monster music and video one most of the time would not see a difference.

Cradlepoint makes a wireless router that turns your Aircard into a router. The difference between the Cradlepoint and the Mi-Fi is that the Cradlepoint does not have to be plugged into a computer. Just insert your Aircard into the Cradlepoint, plug the Cradlepoint into an electrical outlet (they also have a battery operated version) and you're good to go anywhere in the house with your notebook computer; or multiple notebook computers; or multiple smartphones.
