Default Devoted Cat Saves Dog

Frederick, MD - Mocha and Abby, two pit bull mixes, grew up together. The dogs played, ate, and slept together -- they were the very best of friends.

Last July, Abby, a black Lab/pit bull mix, passed away, leaving her old friend, Mocha, behind. Mocha's human parents were sad, but Mocha was devastated.

The once muscular, healthy dog stopped eating, stopped playing, and became withdrawn -- for all intents and purposes, the despondent dog stopped living.

So shattered was the devoted dog that her owners feared she would soon die too. Her once healthy body was quickly becoming frail and the light was gone from her eyes.

Mocha wasn't alone in the household, however. Her fur-family included three kittens -- kittens with a different plan in mind for the sad dog.

One day, Mocha's owner noticed that the cats, Princess Jessica, Poppy and Potter, were catching mice and bringing them to the devastated dog. Each day, the cats took turns bringing treats to Mocha.

Beyond the delivery of mice came special attention from the black cat known at Princess Jessica. Jessica took the dog under her proverbial wing, following her everywhere -- even outside for the dog's potty breaks.

Mocha began to get a light back in her eyes and a bounce in her step. Having a close companion again, even if it was a cat rather than a dog, seemed to give Mocha the incentive that she needed to get back to the business of living.

The Villages Florida

Now, a year later, Mocha, despite her 14 years of age, has once again regained her strength and her zest for life. Princess Jessica continues to be Mocha's companion today, showing once again that love truly knows no boundaries.

I love the story. Animals are absolutely amazing! They are much better to each other than many humans are to each other.

Loved it.. I was sixteen when my father passed away. Our dog sat on our front porch and wailed for hours before we children were told that he had passed away. Our connection with all creatures goes deep.

Im convinced animals feel much much more then we give them credit for. This story was so heartwarming.

And now the sales pitch, please support your local animal shelters even if its just donating old blankets and rugs. These sweet animals didnt ask to be placed in this situation, your kindness is so appreciated. Thanks!

What a wonderful story!! It really warms your heart hearing a story like that. The cat had good instincts to take care of the dog like that. So sweet......
