This has been one of the hottest summers I can ever remember and I am in Northern Indiana.

I know that is true for much of the country too, but how about you Villagers? Has it been more hot than normal for you all? Are you looking forward to maybe a slight relief in Sept or perhaps Oct?

I know last Winter was cold for you all (which I say tongue in cheek--cold there would be nice here for a winter day haha) but was this summer hotter than the norm? I think my friend thought it got hot sooner than normal. Are you going buggy being couped up in the heat of the day? Do you still get out and socialize with neighbors? at the rec ctrs? at the pools?

I am back in upstate N.Y. for the summer but its been very hot and humid in July and part of August here. Seems to have cooled down some now. I hear from friends in TV that it is unbearably hot and oppressive this summer. Heat index of 107-110 today in TV.

If we think back to when we were kids, I can remember many summers in Chicago that were up around 100 degrees for many days in a row. That was not unusual there for July and August. I think its a trade off. You get about 2 to 3 months of ungodly heat in Florida and a good 7 months of cold and gloom in the east and midwest. All a matter of personal preference. Im thankful I have the best of both worlds but I do miss my TV friends and activities alot!

We are having the hottest summer in Ontario, Canada, for the past 100 years. (I'm not quite that old, but that is what the records say).

My friend from The Villages was here visiting me at the Lake cottage for the past two weeks. I was complaining about the heat here. She just shook her head and laughed at me. So I'm guessing we're at least 20 degrees cooler here than in The Villages.

Our food will be more expensive soon because where they grow it in California the crops are not growing well due to the cold weather.

San Diego for example is having the coldest summer in nearly a century.

High temps in the SF Bay area have been in the high 60's to mid 70's all summer; 5 to 10 degrees below normal.

Here in Lake County, North of Napa Valley, the average high has been in the mid 90's all summer with only a few days over 100 - locals say it has been much lower than normal. (Seems very high to us after living in the Bay Area for the past 35 years)

Came back a week ago from a trip to Middle Tennessee and the far southwestern end of North Carolina. Virtually everyone I talked with complained that it has been "the hottest summer in memory!"

I'm inclined to think that that's also true here in TV, but it isn't as bad as it might seem. I've noticed that the late weathercasts on the boob tube imply that we're "about normal!"

Now, if we could just bottle some of the "excessive" heat so as to have some protection against the winter's cold . . .

I'm pretty sure that last winter was record-setting in many, many ways!

We were in northern Indiana last week which was very hot, but I didn't think it was any worse in TV, and we don't have the bugs like we experienced in Indiana. Came to TV from Fort Wayne 1 yr ago, but we wouldn't go back except for family and friends.

We are in Michigan (about 30 miles north of Detroit) we have had quite a few hot days. Next week in the mid 80s. I still can't wait for mid September we will be heading back down to TV.

This is our third summer in TV, and I can't tell that it's been any hotter here this summer than in the past two summers. It has been really hot here every summer, but I adore that it is hot! 'Bring it!'. The heat and the sunshine (while being mindful to avoid a sunburn), are some of the reasons we moved to Florida. Cold, snow and ice are what I want to stay away from! You just learn to adjust, by doing walking or other outdoor exercise earlier in the morning; or in the evening. Hot days are why pools - and showers at the pools, and showers in the rest rooms - were invented. My favorite way to spend the hot middle parts of the days are at a pool, and going back and forth from my chair to the shower by the pool; that way, I don't have to even have to exert myself to get into the pool if I don't want to! The pool water in some of the pools is warm enough from the sun that often the shower by the pool is cooler water, and so it is more refreshing.

Then, there are the beaches, another great way to spend hot days. How wonderful to be within a drive of beaches that people travel hundreds and thousands of miles to visit. Long walks on beaches are like being in paradise.

There are plenty of great indoor daytime activities here in the summer, too; and then, later, it is lively here at the night spots. All in all, to me the heat here is easy to deal with, one way or another. It's all in our attitude.

It was just reported that for the first time in many, many years Houston, Texas has not had one day of 100 degrees or more. They are in shock because Houston usually has many.

I was in TV from the 6th to the 12th (last week) and the weather was perfect. There was a tropical storm spinning in the golf that keep the temps down and the breeze up.

I am not a fan of hot days, but even on the 94' days in TV the golf cart is not unbearable. Actually easier than getting in and out of the hot car to run errands. I am very pleasantly surprised.

We bought a villa in Summerhill in April. Can't wait to move there. We are wondering where most villagers go to the beach? Which ones are closest and nicest? Thanks

We go to Crystal River on the Gulf. Take Hwy 484 from 441/27 at the lite just south of the Market of Marion West thru Dunnellon to Hwy 19 on the coast; then 19 south into Crystal River and a right on W Fort Island Trail to the beach.
About an hour and fifteen minutes drive.

My granddaughter likes New Smyrna Beach on the Ocean. 441/27 north to 42, 42 east to 44, 44 east to the beach. About an hour and a half drive.

There is also swimming at Rainbow Springs in Dunnellon and Alexander Springs north of Altoona - check out the Fla State Parks website.
