My new photo is that of me and my 3 grandchildren: Aiden, Ethan and Layla.

Layla and Ethan were born 4 months premature at Buffalo Children's Hospital in Buffalo, NY on June 18, 2008. They each weighed less than one and a half pounds and were no longer than the palm of my hand. Their little diapers were half of a toothbrush tall. They were in the NICU for the first 6 months of their life. Ethan (aka EMan) survived 5 different surgeries, including 1 heart surgery. His little chest looks like a roadmap. He is truly my hero!

They are thriving and happy babies, a little behind in the growth department, but eating like crazy and just living and loving life. I thank God everyday for them.

Where our niece was born only 21 weeks old. She amazingly became stable and finally went home three months later. At age two she developed pneumonia and spent weeks in the Childrens' ICU. Her second day there she had a stroke and had to be placed in an induced coma to restore lung and other functions. All in a days work for those folks.

After recovering and rehab, she is four now, and other than being somewhat small for her age, is totally normal. She may have problems later, but she has been given a wonderful chance at life. We all know she will survive and probably contribute as much as her parents; two doctors who direct different sections of a Veterans Hospital.

And, for a change, let's hear it for US healthcare!

Bless you BK...I feel your pain in the pit of my stomach. But thank God for people like you who adopted!

My twin brother and I were adopted at birth...my parents chose to keep us together. We were so lucky; I found out a couple of years ago that my biological mother died at 39 years of age due to complications from alcohol addiction.

The best thing she did for us was to give us to two loving parents who loved and cherished us until the day they died.

The NICU doctors and nurses were some of the most dedicated people I have ever met...totally selfless and absolutely devoted!

Funny thing. Yesterday we accompanied our miracle baby to Cincinnati Childrens hospital for a cardiac evaluation that lasted for about five hours. The usual time. We have done it many times with her.

This baby is 44 years old and has had two very involved surgeries at Childrens when she was young. She still goes there because they have the expertise to evaluate her repaired Supravalvar Aortic Stenosis. It isn't something cardiologists run into all the time. They are used to seeing their adult successes.

She laughed when she read the forms that said to be sure to bring a favorite toy.

It was a long and scary story years ago, but yesterday was just a routine wonderful day to hear that this repair is working great after all these years.

When we see miracles like these children, how can it be that there are people who do not believe there is a God? How precious are these little ones!

We often use their transport team to come and evaluate preterm infants status, treat and transport. I have admired their teams for over 15 years! There are lots of miracle babies !! I hope to communicate with Nurses in The Villages who work Labor and Delivery, Post Partum, Nursery and NICU. We are planning to live in the Villages in the next three years!!!
