Default 12 years, Finally Made the Jump

For giggles I just clicked on my username, and discovered that I first joined on Dec.31, 2008. A mere 12 years ago to the day.

My interest in TV was initiated by two good friends who had just bought a place. I was still working and retirement was a distant blimp on a very distant horizon.

12 years later, DW and I have finally made the plunge, and have a house under contract. We are currently renting, and this our third rental winter. We've been coming here visiting or renting for more than a decade. We are beyond excited.
I've learned a lot on these boards.
Thanks, everyone, and Happy New Year!

I think you have made a wise decision. I hope you are as happy as the three of us. Welcome home.

Congratulations, we took the same path. Two good friends introduced us when they bought a brand new home in the Village of Summerhill about 12 years before we finally became Villagers. We were still working, retirement was in the distant horizon, and the people in the Villages seemed old but very happy. As we visited and rented over the years the place really grew on us, and suddenly the people there didn’t seem old anymore, but were still happy. Now we are old and happy Villagers. Happy New Year : )

Many of the my favorite people here in the Villages are from Ohio!

We moved from Palm Harbor, FL in 2005 and have rarely had any desire to move back to the Gulf Coast.

and thanks to all for the warm welcome. We aren't moving full time to Florida. As my username might hint, we live on a lake in NY State and the summers there are marvelous, so for the foreseeable future, summers there, and no snow in the forecast!

woot woot!!

Thank you for posting your experience. I became interested in The Villages when my friend first went house hunting almost 10 years ago, and I tagged along with her. The Villages has been on my radar screen/short list ever since, and I have returned to visit The Villages almost every year since 2012. I can now count on one hand (hopefully) the number of years until I can retire and move to The Villages. Congratulations, happy moving/settling in and enjoy your new home.

We wintered in Palm Harbor for several years before moving to FL full-time and joining my sister and her hubs in TV. I miss taking a drive to watch the sun set over the water and hubby misses being close to Phillies spring training in Clearwater. Oh, and Rita's! Sure wish we had one of those here.
