I've never owned a car. I currently live in NYC, and I've never had the need for one. I've been very fortunate to be able to walk to where I needed items, taken public transportation to and from work for 30+ years, and used a car service when the need arose.

But as I plan to move to TV, I realize I'm going to need one. I'm not sure of the process or the order of steps involved.

I'd truly appreciate it if someone could walk me thru the process? I'd purchase a used car either from Lake Auto or Love Chevrolet.

1. Do I need to purchase car insurance before I purchase the car? Don't I need specifics of the car itself for the insurance like VIN, odometer readings, etc?
2. Do I purchase and register the car at the same time?
3. I know I have to surrender my NY license to get a Florida one, but is this independent of the car purchase?
