Default Kitchen & bath countertops

We want to replace our dated kitchen and master bath laminate countertops. I think (subject to rethinking)that I‘be settled on quartz as the material, based on Consumer Reports ratings. I’ve searched this site and can find many contractors/companies to avoid. That’s good info but I need help with finding someone who you would recommend in a positive way for this work. Someone mentioned Kitchen and Bath Studios of Ocala in a post. Has anyone used them? Happy? Anyone else? Thanks! I always get the best info on TOTV.

Once the pandemic is history and we are ok with having installers in our house we plan to buy quartz tops from them.

Best of luck. Just a word of advice from my own experience, Please, do not use Wildwood Kitchen and Bath to do what ever work you get done.

We used Ultimate Granite and were very satisfied with quality of product and workmanship. We wore masks to walk around warehouse and yard and while ordering.

When installers came to our home we stayed on the lanai and they were masked. Very happy with the work and you can stay safe. It was nice to have something to do during pandemic and to get something accomplished that we wanted to do for a long time.

From a This Old House web page:
“ Is Quartz is Better Than Granite?
Their primary ingredient is ground quartz (about 94 percent), combined with polyester resins to bind it and pigments to give it color. For some designs, small amounts of recycled glass or metallic flecks are added to the mix. The resins also help make these counters stain and scratch resistant—and nonporous, so they never need to be sealed. Compare that with granite, the reigning king of high-end countertops, which typically requires a new protective top coat at least once a year.

In the past, the biggest knock against quartz was that it lacked the patterns and color variations you get with natural stone. But that's a moot point now, with all the manufacturers offering multihued slabs with enough flecks, swirls, and random patterning to make them almost indistinguishable from the real thing.

They were once available only with a polished finish; now you can get one with a honed, sandblasted, or embossed treatment.”

The article says to expect $60-$90 per square foot, installed. I’d say splurge on something beautiful, not something plain. Likewise, my house came with chocolate brown granite. Boring! There’s so much granite out there that is astonishingly beautiful, and some of the quartz is, too. I love beautiful stone.

I do want to mention that when an article states that it is primarily granite, or even give a percentage of granite to resin (usually 92-97%), they are talking about WEIGHT not VOLUME. Granite is extremely heavy compared to resin, thus not that much granite in reality in Quartz.

Quartzite is a wonderful alternative if you want something astonishingly beautiful.

We had our kitchen countertops along with two bathroom countertops fabricated and installed by Stone Rise Granite and Tile. Our choice was quartz. Loved the price, loved in installers and extremely happy with the results. They have a large yard in Ocala and another outlet off Morse Blvd and 44.

We used Kitchen and Bath Studios of Ocala to remodel 2 bathrooms, the kitchen and laundry room. Plus replace flooring in the 3 bedrooms and lanai. The countertops are Cambria Quartz. Paul’s people did an excellent job and we are quite happy with the work.
