New changes to Canadian federal legislation allows police officers to stop vehicles and demand a breathalizer test without having a specific reason to do so.
The move has been aimed at curbing drunk driving and has been celebrated by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) as a significant step towards preventing deaths from drunk driving accidents. |

The Marine Patrol on the Chesapeake Bay do the same thing to boaters. Really sad that no reason is necessary to bother people. One bad apple ruins the whole basket.

Been doing that for years in Australia.
They close roads and breathalyze all cars drivers. If you do a U turn to avoid, m/c cop chases you down. |

Given that we're not allowed to travel into Canada right now, I'll just file this one under 'follow-up'

Why yes, yes it does. Words matter in a text forum. They matter a lot. When you post a brand new thread to inform people that a "new" regulation has done a, b, or c - the focus is on the word "new." It's directing your attention to something that hasn't happened previously. And, without including the source of the information, people who don't actually do any fact checking, will take it at face value and respond as though the thing that happened, was a new thing.
It's not new. It's not even recent. It happened almost 3 years ago (December 2018). The entire free world has had a chance to get used to this information for the past 2+ years, and the OP is JUST NOW directing your attention to it, as if it were something new and nefarious that "means something" in the current political climate. It's a non-thing. A nothingberder. One of those "dood, that is SO five minutes ago" former-events-that-no-one-cares-about-anymore. There's no reason to bring it up now, other than to stir a hornet's nest that hadn't previously existed. |

You might not like the Canadian legislation, but it doesn't apply to American laws anyway. As said already - this entire topic of the "new" legislation is a nothingberder. |

Absolutely unbelievable.
Was all that really necessary? I'm not anti Canadian but it should cheese folks off a bit that they are pathetic in regards to paying their fair share of NATO. Or the UN. Is that news enough for some folks? Not to worry, good old USA will pony up for all the slackers. Last edited by bobdeb; 04-26-2021 at 05:33 PM. |

Law-enforcement in the United States can stop you anytime they want to.If you’re not doing something wrong They will make something up. It’s your word against theirs if you want to fight it. Unless there is a video of the interaction between the two of you nobody’s going to believe you.

There are no changes to Canada Federal Legislation regarding police officers.
I should know because I live in Canada.
