Need contractor recommendation for removal off about 155 square feet of old sod and replacement with new sod. I seem to be unable to find anybody that does small jobs.

And therein lies one problem of doing almost anything in The Villages. They have so much business they just don't care. I wanted an estimate from a couple major landscaping companies (and this would be a $6K plus job) and before I even said hello they told me estimates are 2-3 weeks out and installation is up to 8 weeks after contract. Some day things will go the other way and they will come begging. That's also why quality & service is going downhill. They figure if it ain't you it will be 12 others. Been the same since well before Covid became the excuse.

We had a job. Bids were between like 2,000 and 300. I called the guy in the middle and the story was when I get back from, I don't remember what country it was, I will call you. I called the lowest guy we hired him. He did a great job. My wife paid him and he said he would be back on Saturday to re-spackle. Like everyone else, I figured my wife paid him fat chance he would come back. Well to my shock he did come back. A friend needed a similar job done. I of course gave this guy the rave reviews he deserved. My friend called him and was told when he gets back from wherever he would call. I also, was at a boat parts place. The guy before me was gossiping he was a plumber. His part was expensive. He told the parts guy he would just add it on to his next plumbing job. Clearly they dance to a different drummer. |

Carla Lopez did my small job recently. 352-484-8098
The work was OK, but a little on the rough side, which seems to be how lots of contractors here lay sod. It is growing well, and eventually I will have some dirt brought in to level the low spots. |

Honestly, no legitimate contractor will re-sod your 155 square feet of lawn as re-soding runs about $1.50 per square feet. Either your local grass cutter or lawn maintenance man.
Another suggestion - Check YOUTUBE as there are many videos on re-soding your lawn. Actually a simple job but labor intensive. 50 pieces of sod from Home-Depot, a shovel, gloves, a leveling rake, 10 plastic bags to throw away the dead grass and a six pack. Check also, EZ Seed Patch and Repair Sun and Shade by Scotts @ 20 pound bag. Good Luck |
